Race 1 March 28, 2010 Auto Club Dragway: Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon Race 1 was scheduled for January originally, but due to tremendous rains, it got postponed to May, making this the first race of the 2010 series. It was supposed to be contested on Saturday, but due to high winds, once again the SCEDA season opener was postponed. Then came Sunday and beautiful weather, so the 1st race of the 2010 SCEDA season was finally contested. In the Meziere Electronics class, it was a current junior dragster driver and electronics rookie, Zach Meziere, taking the victory in his first ever race in a big car. Zach took the win over Chris Lee. Meziere had the reaction time advantage and ran an 8.029 on his 8.02 dial to take his first win in a big car race. What is interesting to note is that his dad Dave Meziere drove this car last year, and won in his first race out with the car as well. Congratulations to Zach on your first ever big car win in your first ever big car race! Meziere was on a string of dead on his dial runs all day long, as he ran right on his dial in the second, third, and final rounds. In the semis, Meziere had a bye run and just took the green light. In the other semi, Lee defeated John Boyd. Boyd had the reaction time advantage, but Lee ran closer to his dial to take the win. Chris Lee of Cal Automotive and RV in Phelan put up $50 for the first person to go red in eliminations in this class. Today, this award went to Donnie Hendricks, who went red by .001 in his first round matchup with Mel Leforbes. The Arias Pistons Dial-Rite program was contested and the winner today was Rob Strong. He dialed a 10.79 and ran a 10.812 to claim the prize. No one was able to claim the West Coast Super Cops Perfect Reaction Time $100 bonus. Honorable mentions for the day go to Dan Simmons for having a .008 light in the first round even though he lost to Corey LeClair, Greg Tremain for having a .008 light in the first round even though he lost to Bob Wilson, Mike Conway for having a .009 light in the first round even though he lost to eventual semi-finalist John Boyd in the first round, eventual semi-finalist John Boyd for a 8.385 on his 8.38 dial in the second round to defeat Bob Wilson, Mel Leforbes for a 8.557 on his 8.55 dial in the second round to defeat Brian Calvin, eventual winner Zach Meziere for a .011 package in the second round to defeat Corey LeClair’s .018 package (Meziere .008, 8.023 on 8.02 dial, LeClair .011, 8.907 on his 8.90 dial), Zach Meziere again for a 8.028 on his 8.02 dial in the third round to defeat Steve Bruns, and Zach Meziere yet again for his 8.029 on his 8.02 dial in the final to defeat Chris Lee. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No E category, it was Dan Marciano taking the victory over 2009 Series Champion, Dick Krieger. Marciano had a .017 package in the final to take the victory with a .005 light and a 10.102 on his 10.09 dial. Krieger was no slouch, but Marciano was just too tough to take his first career SCEDA victory. In the semis, Marciano had the bye run and just simply took the green light. In the other semi, Krieger defeated Greg Hyatt in an all altered affair. Krieger had the reaction time advantage off the line and was able to run closer to his dial to advance into the final and try to start the year where he left off last year. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Brad Cannon who ran a Perfect 12.300 on his 12.30 dial to claim the prize. The Cal Automotive and RV first red light award went to Mike Beckwith, who went red by .014 to Val Houmard in round number one. The West Coast Super Cops Perfect Light Bonus went to Joseph Werkheise in his 84 Chevy Pick-Up in the first round to defeat Mike Agnew. Honorable mentions for the day go to Eric Haensly for running 11.418 on his 11.41 dial in the first round to defeat Chris Mills, Val Houmard for running 10.488 on her 10.48 dial in the second round to defeat Dave Nassimbene, eventual winner Dan Marciano for running 10.090 on his 10.09 dial in the second round to defeat Kevin McClelland, Dan Marciano again for running 10.095 on his 10.09 dial in the third round to defeat Tom Easterday, Greg Hyatt for a .006 light on a bye run in the third round, Dan Marciano yet again for a 10.097 on his 10.09 dial in the fourth round to defeat Eric Christianson, and Dan Marciano for his .005 reaction time in the final round to take the win. In the Calvert Racing Suspensions Stock/Super Stock Combo, it was Doug Broaddus taking the victory over Brett Brown. Brown had the reaction time advantage, but broke out by .005 in the final round, allowing Broaddus to take the first victory of the 2010 season. In the semis, Brown had the bye run and just took the green. In the other matchup, Broaddus defeated Daniel McClelland. McClelland had a great .004 reaction time, but broke out by .007, allowing Broaddus to advance into the final round. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite program was contested and the win went to Doug Lambeck who went 10.278 on his 10.26 dial. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Paul Cannan for running 10.483 on his 10.48 dial in the first round on a bye run, Andy Durham for his 10.744 on his 10.74 dial in the second round to defeat Chuck Echmalian, Daniel McClelland for his .008 light in the third round to defeat Doug Lambeck, and Daniel McClelland again, this time for his .004 light in the semi finals, albeit he lost to eventual winner Doug Broaddus. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories Jr. Dragsters, it was the defending champion Ryan Diosdado taking the victory over Ricky Reed. Reed went red by .004 in the final, allowing Diosdado to start the 2010 season where he left off in 2009. In the semis, Diosdado defeated Ashley Jeter. Jeter went red by .051, allowing Diosdado to advance to the final. In the other semi final matchup, Reed defeated Dylan Cowling. Reed had the reaction time advantage, and was able to defeat Dylan Cowling, although he ran closer to his predicted et. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite winner was Sami Ball, who ran 8.093 on her 8.07 dial to take the win. The Scot Paul Best Package in the first round $50 savings bond went to Brianna Blinzler, who ran a 7.955 on her 7.90 dial to win the prize. Honorable mentions go out to Avery Brown for his .007 light in the first round to defeat Chandler Meziere, “Double 0” DJ Houmard for living up to his name and having a .004 light in the first round to defeat Vincent Marciano, Brianna Blinzler for having a .002 light in the first round to defeat Matthew Verlingo, Genesis Coombs for running 7.958 on her 7.95 dial in the second round to defeat Jimmy Morosan, and eventual runner up Ricky Reed for having a 7.908 on his 7.90 dial in the third round to defeat DJ Houmard. Race 2 March 28, 2010 Auto Club Dragway: Fontana, CA By: Brad Canon
Due to the weather issues of Saturday, race 2 was also contested on Sunday, after the first race was completed. Due to these circumstances, the Arias Pistons dial rite program was not contested for this race. In the Meziere Electronics class, it was Race 1 winner and rookie Zach Meziere taking the victory once again. This time he defeated Steve Bruns. Meziere had the better reaction time on the starting line and ran 8.017 on his 8.01 dial to take his second victory of the year and his career in as many races. In the semis, Meziere had a bye run and just simply took the green light. In the other semi, Bruns defeated Dan Simmons. Simmons was the slower car and went red by .028 giving Bruns the advance into the final. It was a bit of an interesting pair though, as Bruns also went red, but Simmons lost because of the first or worse rule because of being the slower dialed car. Once again Meziere kept running right on his dial, running dead on in the second and final rounds. Maybe “Dead on” Don Gatlin has some competition if he wants to keep his title? The kid Zach is certainly giving him a run for the title. The Cal Automotive and RV first red light prize went to Bob Wilson for this race. He went red by .017 to eventual semi-finalist Dan Simmons in the first round. The West Coast Super Cops Perfect Light Bonus was once again not won by any drivers in this event and will roll to the May race. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Dan Simmons for his .002 reaction time in the first round to defeat Bob Wilson, eventual winner Zach Meziere for a .009 reaction time on his first round bye run, eventual runner up Steve Bruns for his .003 light in the second round to defeat race 1 runner up Chris Lee, Zach Meziere again, this time for a 8.015 on his 8.01 dial in the second round to defeat “Dead On” Don Gatlin (who may be losing his title pretty soon), and Zach Meziere for his 8.017 on his 8.01 dial in the final to defeat Steve Bruns. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No E category, it was Chris Vels taking the victory over Mike Agnew. Vels had the better reaction time and ran closer to his dial in to take the victory. In the semis, Vels defeated Race 1 runner up and 2009 series champion Dick Krieger. Vels had the reaction time advantage and that gave him the ability to take the win over Krieger, who ran 8.407 on his 8.40 dial. In the other semi, Agnew defeated Mike Beckwith who went red. This set the final round matchup between Vels and Agnew. The Cal Automotive and RV first red light award went to Joseph Werkheise, who went red by .012 in round 1 to Kevin McClelland. The West Coast Super Cops Perfect Reaction Time Bonus was handed out in Race 1, so it did not apply to this race. Honorable mentions for the day go to eventual winner Chris Vels for a .008 light in the first round to defeat Val Houmard, Brad Cannon for running 12.339 on his 12.33 dial in the first round to defeat Dwayne Eastridge, eventual runner up Mike Agnew for running 10.350 on his 10.35 dial in the first round to defeat Sam Robinson, and eventual winner Chris Vels for running 10.141 on his 10.14 dial on his second round bye run. In the Calvert Racing Suspensions Stock/Super Stock Combo, it was Ryan Mangus taking the victory over Daniel McClelland. Mangus was driving the Rizzoli family stocker. Mangus had the better reaction time and broke out by less in a double breakout final to take his first Stock/Super Stock Combo victory. In the semis, McClelland defeated Andy Durham. McClelland put together a .030 package with a .028 light and a 11.782 on his 11.78 dial to defeat Durham who broke out big time. In the other semi, Mangus defeated Race 1 runner-up Brett Brown. Mangus had the reaction time advantage and ran right on his 11.51 dial with a 11.517 to take the win and advance into the final round. Honorable mentions for the day go out to the two finalists Ryan Mangus and Daniel McClelland. Mangus for his 11.517 on his 11.51 dial in the semis to defeat race 1 runner up Brett Brown, and McClelland for his 11.782 on his 11.78 dial in the semis to defeat Andy Durham. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories Jr. Dragsters, it was Austin Greenwell taking the victory over Ryan Houmard. Austin Greenwell had the better reaction time and that gave him all the advantage that he needed to claim his first SCEDA victory in his first ever SCEDA event. In the semi, Austin Greenwell defeated 2009 series champ and Race 1 winner Ryan Diosdado. Austin Greenwell ran a 8.948 on his 8.94 and had the better reaction time to take the win and put an end to the champ’s domination. In the other matchup, Ryan Houmard defeated Brianna Blinzler. Ryan Houmard had the better reaction time and ran a 8.952 on his 8.95 dial to take the win with a .012 package. The Scot Paul Best Package in round 1 went to Brandyn Willoughby for running 7.954 on his 7.95 dial. Honorable mention goes out to Ralphie Ramirez III who had a perfect reaction time in round 1 to defeat Matthew Verlingo. Honorable mentions for the day also go out to Asher Dobbins for running 9.609 on his 9.60 even though he lost to Brianna Blinzler, Ryan Greenwell for having a .005 light in the first round to defeat Brandon Savolt, Brandyn Willoughby for having a .010 package in the first round to defeat Brandon Seraphine (Willoughby .006, 7.954 on his 7.95 dial, Seraphine 7.956 on his 7.95 dial), Genesis Coombs for running 7.942 on her 7.94 dial in the first round to defeat race 1 winner Ricky Reed, eventual runner up Ryan Greenwell for running 8.952 on his 8.95 dial in the semis to defeat Brianna Blinzler, and eventual winner Austin Greenwell for running 8.948 on his 8.94 dial in the semis to defeat Ryan Diosdado. Race #3 Auto Club Dragway Fontana, CA May 8, 2010 By: Brad Cannon This weekend was the rescheduled races from what was supposed to be the season opener, but unfortunately weather forced the postponement of that event. The weather today couldn’t be better, as we had beautiful warm, sunny Southern California weather. The anticipation for the day was high, and the racing action was awesome. Contestants were competing for the Arias Pistons Dial Rite program during the last time pass. Also, the winners of each race knew that they would be qualifying for the year end ARP Race of Champions. In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics class, it was “Dead On” Don Gatlin taking the victory over Corey LeClair. LeClair had a bit of misfortune in the final, breaking out by .001 and handing Gatlin the victory. By winning, Gatlin qualified for the year end ARP Race of Champions, received a SCEDA Big Guy trophy and took home the $1000 in the semis, Gatlin had a bye run and LeClair defeated Rob Strong. In a bit of a bizarre race, Strong left before the tree came down, something very uncharacteristic of him. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was contested, and the winner was Rodger Comstock. He ran 7.231 on his 7.23 predicted E.T. to take home the prize. The Cal Automotive first red light award went to Joy Linehan, who went red by .049 to Jim Willoughby the first pair out. The West Coast Super Cops Perfect Light Bonus was not claimed. In the second round, there was a battle for the title of “Dead On.” Last race, Zach Meziere had a string of dead on his dial runs, challenging Don Gatlin for his “Dead On” Don title. The victory went to Don Gatlin, who in fact ran dead on his dial with a 5. So he shall remain “Dead On” Don Gatlin. I suppose that Zach Meziere will have to settle for the title of “Zach Attack”. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Darren Owens for running 7.948 on his 7.94 dial in the first round to defeat Chris Lee, Dan Simmons for his .009 light in the first round to defeat Tom Bayer, Corey LeClair for his .008 light in the first round to defeat Harold Meziere, Rodger Comstock for running 7.236 on his 7.23 dial in a red light loss effort to Ron Weems in round one, “Dead On” Don Gatlin for his earlier mentioned 7.648 on his 7.64 dial to reclaim his title, and Rob Strong for running 10.822 on his 10.82 dial in the second round to defeat Dan Simmons. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, it was Sam Robinson IV taking the victory over Dick Krieger. This was Sam’s first victory in quite some time. In the final, Krieger had the reaction time advantage with a great .007, but broke out in the final, giving Robinson his long awaited victory. With his win, Sam Robinson gained entry into the ARP Race of Champions, received a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, and acquired some more money for diapers for his new baby daughter. In the semi finals, Robinson had a bye run and easily advanced. In the other matchup, Krieger defeated Wayne Carroll. The reaction time advantage went to Carroll, but the win light went to Krieger. This still was a great showing for Carroll as it was his first race back out with his car after having an unfortunate incident with the wall at the season opening SCEDA event. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Mike Agnew who ran .022 over his predicted E.T. to win. He ran 10.392 on his 10.37 predicted E.T. to take the prize. The Cal Automotive first red light award went to Jeff Interlicchia, who was red by .025 in the first round against “Captain” Jack Swanson. The West Coast Super Cops Perfect Light Bonus was not claimed by any racer. Honorable mention for the day go out to Sam Robinson III for running 13.991 on his 13.99 dial in the first round, although it in a losing effort to John Brooks, Greg Hyatt for a .005 light in the first round to defeat Sacha Nettles, Ralph Ramirez Jr. for a .009 light in the first round to defeat CW Hoefer, Val Houmard for a .001 light in the first round to defeat Dan Marciano, Mike Agnew for running 10.419 on his 10.41 dial in the first round on a bye run, Wayne Carroll for a .003 light in the third round to defeat Mike Nordahl, Ralph Ramirez Jr. for a .006 light in the third round to defeat Cynthia Lang, Wayne Carroll again, this time for a .006 package in round 4 to defeat Mike Agnew (he had a .004 light, 9.642 on a 9.64 dial), and runner up Dick Krieger for a .007 reaction time in the final round. In the Calvert Racing Suspension SCEDA Stock/Super Stock Combo, it was Tony Mandella taking the victory over Brian Zavala. With his win, Mandella qualified for the year end ARP Race of Champions race, received a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, and took home the $500. In the final, Mandella had a great .003 light and Zavala went red. In the Semi finals, Mandella defeated Daniel McClelland in a battle of the young guns. The reaction time advantage went to McClelland, but Mandella took the win in a double breakout affair. In the other matchup, Zavala defeated Doug Gibson. They were almost dead even off the line and down at the finish line. This was also a double breakout race, with Zavala breaking out by .003 less in order to take the victory. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was not contested. Honorable mention for the day go out to Brett Brown for his 11.539 on his 11.53 dial in the first round to defeat Wayne Taylor, Daniel McClelland for his .004 light in the first round to defeat a red lighting Cliff Hanson, Ryan McClanahan for a .010 light on his first round single, Tony Janes for a 12.665 on his 12.66 dial in the second round to defeat Ken Etter, Doug Gibson for running 11.928 on his 11.92 dial in the second round to defeat Jeff Interlicchia, McClelland for running 12.995 on his 12.99 dial in the second round to defeat Craig Scheer, McClanahan for a .002 package in the second round with a .001 light and running 9.951 on his 9.95 dial to defeat Chuck Echmalian, who ran a perfect 11.580 on his 11.58 dial in and received a case of Lucas Oil Transmission Fluid as a consolation prize. John J. Calvert for his .005 light on his second round bye run, Ryan McClanahan for running a perfect 9.930 on his 9.93 dial in the third round albeit in a losing effort to Daniel McClelland, and Mandella for his final round .003 reaction time. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Junior Dragster category, it was Ryan Greenwell taking the victory over 2009 SCEDA Series Champion Ryan Diosdado. Some of you may remember that Ryan’s younger brother Austin won an earlier race this year, so now both Greenwell brothers have been to the winners circle and qualified for the ARP Junior Dragster Race of Champions. Greenwell had the reaction time advantage on the starting line, and ran an 8.035 on his 8.03 dial to defeat Diosdado. In the semi-finals, Diosdado defeated the 2009 Junior National Champion Brandon Seraphine. The reaction time advantage went very slightly to Diosdado on the starting line, and this forced Seraphine to break out in an effort to take the finish line stripe. In the other semi final matchup, Greenwell defeated “Double-0” DJ Houmard. Houmard had an uncharacteristic .101 red light, allowing Greenwell to easily advance into the final round. The winner of the Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Chandler Meziere. His predicted E.T. was 9.01 and he ran 9.018 to be .008 over and that was good enough to take the win. The Ball Family sponsored the award for the number one qualifier by giving them a $25 movie card. Today, the honors of this award went to Gennesis Coombs, who had a .003 light in qualifying. Scot Paul sponsored a $50 savings bond for the competitor who had the best package in the first round. On this day, Madison Whitten claimed the honors by defeating Vincent Marciano in the first round with a .027 package. She had a .020 reaction time and ran 7.907 on her 7.90 dial to claim the prize. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Madison Whitten for running her 7.907 on a 7.90 dial in the first round to take the best package award, Brianna Blinzler for her .009 light in the first round albeit in a losing effort to Savanna Hall, Whitten again for a 7.908 on her 7.90 dial in the second round even though it was not enough to defeat Austin Greenwell, runner up Ryan Diosdado for running 7.905 on his 7.90 dial in the second round to defeat Savanna Hall, Diosdado again, this time for a .009 light in the third round to defeat Austin Greenwell, and winner Ryan Greenwell for his final round effort being only .005 over his dial to take the victory. Race #4 Auto Club Dragway Fontana, CA May 9, 2010 By: Brad Cannon Sunday rolls around, and it was a happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. The racing action was just as good. The weather was a bit cool and overcast, great for racing as most cars were running near their best ever elapsed times. In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics class, it was Saturday’s runner up Corey LeClair going the distance and defeating Rob Strong. This was a rematch of Saturday’s semi-final round. With his win, LeClair qualified for the ARP Race of Champions at the end of the year, received a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, and took home the $1000. LeClair had the reaction time advantage and that was all he needed to defeat Strong. The margin of victory was .0057. In the semi finals, LeClair advanced easily on a bye run. The other matchup saw Strong defeat “Dead On” Don Gatlin. Gatlin went red by .007, allowing Strong to advance into the final round. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was contested and the winner was Rob Strong. He ran 10.749 on his 10.72 predicted E.T. to take the prize. The Cal Automotive first red light award went to Karen Comstock, who was red by .055 to Don Gatlin in the first round. The West Coast Super Cops Perfect Light Bonus was once again not claimed yet again and will roll over to the July race. Honorable mention goes to Dan Simmons for a .001 light in the second round although it was not enough against Rob Strong. The point’s battle is looking to take shape, with rookie Zach Meziere leading “Dead On” Don Gatlin by 22 points. Rob Strong, Corey LeClair, and Chris Lee round out the top 5. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, it was 2009 series champion Dick Krieger taking the victory over Dan Marciano. With the win, Krieger qualified for the ARP Race of Champions, received a SCEDA Big Guy Trophy, and took home the $500. The reaction time advantage went to Marciano on the starting line with a great .006 light, but Krieger ran closer to his dial and took the victory by .0048. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was contested and the winner was Courtney Glover. He ran a 10.115 on his 10.11 predicted E.T. to take the honors. The Cal Automotive first red light award went to John Brooks who went red to eventual winner Dick Krieger in the first round by .013. The West Coast Super Cops Perfect Light Bonus was once again not claimed and will roll to the July race. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Dick Krieger for a .001 light in the second round to defeat Wayne Carroll, Ralph Ramirez Jr. for running 11.514 on his 11.51 dial in the second round to defeat Saturday’s winner Sam Robinson, Krieger for a .009 light in the third round to defeat Courtney Glover, Ramirez Jr. for a .003 light in the third round, albeit on a losing effort to Brad Cannon, and runner up Dan Marciano for his .006 light in the final round, although it was not enough to defeat Krieger. The point’s battle is shaping up in this class, and 2009 Champion Dick Krieger looks to be in control once again, with a 65 point advantage over second place Dan Marciano. Third place is Mike Agnew, 55 points behind second place Marciano. Brad Cannon is in fourth, 1 point behind Agnew. Sam Robinson IV is in 5th, 10 points behind Cannon. Greg Hyatt, Jack Swanson, Courtney Glover, Val Houmard, and rookie Kelly Davis round out the top 10. In the Calvert Racing SCEDA Stock/Super Stock Combo, it was Chad Langdon taking the victory over Daniel McClelland. With his win, Langdon qualifies for the year end ARP Race of Champions, receives a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, and took home the $500. The reaction time advantage went to Langdon in the final and that was all he needed to defeat the youngest McClelland. In the semi final matchup, McClelland defeated Brett Brown. It was a double breakout race, and the reaction time of McClelland helped him to take the victory. The other matchup saw Langdon defeat Doug Gibson. This race was also a double breakout, and Langdon broke out by .004 less to take the victory. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was competed and the winner was Tim Hall. On his predicted E.T. of 10.84, he ran 10.874 to be .034 over his predicted E.T. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Jeff Interlicchia for running 12.956 on his 12.95 dial in the first round to defeat Ken Etter, Chuck Echmalian for running 11.581 on his 11.58 dial in the first round to defeat Craig Scheer, Chad Langdon for a .006 light in the second round to defeat Tim Hall. It is also worth noting that Langdon had a perfect reaction time in the second qualifying pass. Doug Gibson ran 11.796 on his 11.79 dial in the second round to defeat Jeff Interlicchia, and McClelland ran a perfect 12.800 on a 12.80 dial in the second round bye run. The point’s battle is starting to take shape, with Daniel McClelland in the lead. Brett Brown is in second 33 points behind. Jeff Interlicchia, Chuck Echmalian, Doug Gibson and Tony Mandella round out the top 5, with Gibson and Mandella being tied for 5th. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Junior Dragster class, it was “Zach Attack” Zach Meziere taking the victory over Brenda Seraphine. If Meziere isn’t winning in the big car this year, it appears that he is winning in the junior then. Brenda Seraphine had the better reaction time, but Meziere ran closer to his dial to take the victory. By taking the victory, Meziere got a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, and also qualified for the ARP Race of Champions. He becomes the first driver in SCEDA history to qualify for both the junior and the big car race and to win in both classes in the same season! The margin of victory was .0058. In the semi finals, Brenda Seraphine defeated Madison Whitten. Whitten went red by .005, allowing Brenda to advance into the final. In the other semi final, Meziere denied the all Seraphine final by defeating Brenda’s younger brother Brandon Seraphine. The starting line advantage went to Meziere, but Brandon was not able to run close to his dial, allowing Meziere to advance. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was contested, and the winner was once again Chandler Meziere. Chandler went 9.044 on his 9.04 dial to be only .004 over and take the prize. The Ball Family number one qualifier movie card award went to Madison Whitten, who went .002 in qualifying to take the honors. The Scot Paul $50 savings bond for the best package in the first round went to Tierney Diaz in a double red light with hers being the least red. She ran 7.991 on her 7.99 dial and although she was red by .009, it was a winning effort so it still qualified her for the best package. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Ryan Houmard for running 8.948 on his 8.94 dial in the first round to defeat older brother DJ Houmard, who ran 7.985 on his 7.98 dial, Tierney Diaz for her earlier mentioned .010 package in the first round to defeat Dylan Cowling, Justin Ball for running 8.815 on his 8.81 dial in the first round, Madison Whitten for having a .009 light in the first round to defeat Brandon Moreno, who had a perfect reaction time, Whitten again, this time for running 7.908 on her 7.90 dial in the second round to defeat Ryan Houmard, Brittany Garcia for running 7.933 on her 7.90 dial in the second round to defeat Ryan Diosdado, Diaz again, this time for a 7.976 on her 7.97 dial in the second round, albeit on a losing effort to eventual winner Zach Meziere, and eventual semi-finalist Brandon Seraphine for running 7.995 on his 7.99 dial in the second round to defeat Sami Ball. The point’s battle is starting to shape up; with 2009 champ Ryan Diosdado looking to defend his championship by currently being in first 55 points ahead of second place Austin Greenwell. Third is Ryan Greenwell, 11 points behind younger brother Austin. Zach Meziere and Brandon Seraphine are tied for fourth, 11 points behind 3rd. Some special awards were handed out for the weekend courtesy of Lucas Oil. Courtney Glover received a case of Transmission Fluid for being the first competitor to sign up. Other Lucas Oil products went to Larry Rosenbaum and Courtney Glover for being the Best Appearing Cars in the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics and Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E classes respectively. This was a great weekend of racing action, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the Independence Day weekend of July 3rd and 4th at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana. Race 5 July 3, 2010 Auto Club Dragway, Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon The weather for the event could not have been better. All the racers were looking forward to the event. We started with a special award for the first racer to sign up with SCEDA, they would receive a case of Lucas Oil. The winner of this prize was Meziere Enterprises Electronics competitor Joy Linehan, who made the walk to the SCEDA trailer as the gates opened. Great job Joy!!! Also another special for the weekend was the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA NO-E bonus for those racers who signed up before time trail session number one and paid for both days. There was also a pair of sunglasses that was donated by Gatorz.com and Mark Means of Means Financial that went to the first racer to run right on their dial in eliminations. Both of these awards will be talked about later on. In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics class, it was Gabe Torres taking the victory over Rob Strong in a great final round. Torres dialed 7.77 and ran 7.765 for a .005 breakout; Strong dialed 10.85 and ran 10.845 for a .005 breakout as well. Also, both drivers had identical .006 reaction times on the starting line, but Torres got the win with a .0009 margin of victory. With his victory, Torres received $1000 and a SCEDA “Big Guy” trophy; in addition, he also qualified for the year end ARP Race of Champions. In the semis, Strong defeated “Bullet” Bob Wilson. Wilson went red by .014, handing Strong the free pass into the final. In the other matchup, it was a battle of the young guns with Torres defeating rookie and current point’s leader Zach Meziere. Torres had a .007 package with a .002 light and running 7.775 on his 7.77 dial to defeat Meziere, who ran 8.069 on his 8.06 dial, but did not get off the starting line first. The Arias Pistons dial rite winner was runner up Zach Meziere, who ran 7.981 on his 7.98 dial to win the $130 prize. The Cal Automotive first red light award went to Don Meziere, who went red by .009 in a losing first round effort to Ryan Tietz. The West Coast Super Cops bonus was not claimed in this category today. Honorable mentions for the day go out to semi finalist “Bullet” Bob Wilson for having a .005 light in the first round to defeat Dan Simmons, Ryan Tietz for running 8.551 on his 8.55 dial in the first round to defeat Don Meziere, Don Steed for having a .002 light in the first round in a losing effort to eventual winner Gabe Torres, Branko Sindicich for running a perfect 10.300 on his 10.30 dial in the second round to defeat “Dead On” Don Gatlin. For his efforts Sindicich received a case of Lucas Oil as a Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E racer had already claimed the Gatorz.com sunglasses prize. It also looks like maybe Sindicich wants to take a stab and try and take the “Dead On” title. More honorable mentions go out to Harold Meziere for a .009 light in the second round albeit on a losing effort to eventual runner up Rob Strong, winner Gabe Torres for a .003 light in the third round to defeat Corey LeClair, Zach Meziere for a perfect 8.070 on his 8.07 dial on a third round bye run, Torres for his earlier mentioned .007 package in the semis to defeat Zach Meziere, and Torres and Strong for their pair of .006 lights in the final in a truly awesome race. Tough luck today went to Steve Bruns who lost in his first round matchup against Branko Sindicich. Bruns had the reaction time advantage off the starting line, but had some tough luck around the 1000 foot mark when we saw a body panel flying off the car. The car, or actually truck, as that’s what he was driving, had lost the passenger door, startling Bruns and causing him to do the smart thing and lift and giving up the matchup. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, it was Mike Agnew taking a weird victory on his final round bye. Yes folks, Agnew took the victory in the final on a bye run. He staged the car and took the green light to take the $1000 win in one of the weirdest final in SCEDA history. Agnew was one of the racers who took advantage of the opportunity to run for $1000 by signing up before the first time run and paying for both days. Agnew also received a SCEDA “Big Guy” trophy, and qualified for the ARP Race of Champions. In the semis, Scott Joines was unable to answer the call for his bye run as he had grenaded his motor on his quarter final victory over Vic Hobbs. The other semi final matchup saw Agnew defeat Alan Hoefer. Agnew had the starting line advantage and broke out by less in the double breakout matchup. Because Joines was unable to answer the call for the semis, the Agnew/Hoefer matchup was also racing for the win, as there would be a ladder bye in the final. The Arias Pistons dial rite was won by Dan Marciano, who went 10.115 on his 10.11 dial to take the $170 prize. The Cal Automotive first red light award went to Jeff Interlicchia who went red by .012 in the first pair out to Val Houmard. I guess that Jeff wanted to make sure that he got at least some money for the day. The West Coast Super Cops perfect light bonus was not claimed and will roll over to tomorrow. The pair of Gatorz.com sunglasses was won by event winner Mike Agnew. In the second round, he went a perfect 10.440 on his 10.44 dial to claim the glasses. As the run order had No-E running before Electronics, Agnew did it first and hence claimed the glasses over Electronics racer Branko Sindicich. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Branko Sindicich for his .004 light in the first round in a losing effort to Sam Robinson III, Dan Wilder for running 11.666 on his 11.66 dial in the first round, albeit on a losing effort to Doug Hemrick, Ralph Ramirez Jr. for a .006 light in the first round to defeat the current points leader Dick Krieger, Vic Hobbs for a .008 light in the second round to defeat Dan Hermes, Agnew for a 10.421 on his 10.42 dial in the third round to defeat Val Houmard, and George Chatterton III for a 8.621 on his 8.62 dial in third round in a losing effort to Scott Joines. In the Calvert Racing Suspension SCEDA Stock/Super Stock Combo, it was point’s leader Daniel McClelland taking the victory Jeff Interlicchia. Interlicchia went red by .030 in the final, handing McClelland the victory and the advance of more precious points. With his win, McClelland received $500 and a SCEDA “Big Guy” Trophy. Additionally, he qualified for the year end ARP Race of Champions. In the semis, McClelland defeated number 2 in points Brett Brown. Although Brown had the reaction time advantage, he broke out trying to take the striping, giving McClelland the victory. The other matchup saw Interlicchia defeat Dan Mason. Interlicchia had the reaction time advantage and ran an 11.455 on his 11.45 dial to advance to the final. The Arias Pistons dial rite was claimed by Dave Rayborn in his SS/AH car he ran an 8.701 to claim the prize in his beautiful SS/AH car. Honorable mention for the day go to Chad Landgon for having a. 005 light in the first round to defeat Ken Etter, Doug Gibson for .006 light to defeat Bill Ripple in the first round, Jeff Interlicchia for a .005 package in the second round to defeat Chad Langdon, and Interlicchia again for his 11.455 on his 11.45 dial in the semis. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Jr. Dragsters, it was Zach Meziere taking the win over Brandyn Phillips. Phillips, who is from Jonesboro, GA and driving former junior dragster racer Kelly Davis’s car, had the reaction time advantage, but Meziere was able to run closer to his number taking the victory. In the semis, Phillips had the bye run and Meziere defeated point’s leader Ryan Diosdado. This prime time matchup saw number one and three in points squaring off, with Meziere, the number three, taking the victory in the double breakout affair. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Ryan Diosdado. He ran 8.066 on his 8.06 dial to take the $50. Diosdado also received $25 from Dan Hepler for being the number one qualifier, with a .001 light in qualifying. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Leah Lambert-Mitchell for a perfect light in a first round winning effort over Logan Daly and Chandler Meziere for running 9.069 on his 9.06 dial in the second round to defeat Ryan Houmard. Race 6 July 4, 2010 Auto Club Dragway, Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon This was another one of the beautiful southern California days that everyone was looking forward to. The day was a celebration of the birthday of our great country, and all the racers were looking forward to competing. The Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E racers who had paid Saturday for both days before the first time trial session once again had the opportunity to be running for $1000. In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics class, it was “Dead On” Don Gatlin taking the victory over Saturday’s winner Gabe Torres. In the final, living up to his title Gatlin ran a dead on 7.689 on his 7.68 dial to defeat Torres, who also went dead on with a 7.715 on his 7.71 dial. The difference was in the starting line where Torres left a little to be desired, allowing Gatlin the victory. With his win, Gatlin got $1000, a SCEDA “Big Guy” trophy, and qualified for the year end ARP Race of Champions. This was a great day for Gatlin as he also won the Super Eliminator Association race that was also running this day. In the semis, Gatlin had the bye run and Torres defeated Tom Drake Jr. The reaction time advantage went to Torres and that gave him all the advantage he needed to take the victory and advance to his second final in as many days. The Arias Pistons dial rite was Rob Strong, who 10.806 on his 10.80 dial to take the $130 prize. The West Coast Super Cops Perfect Light Bonus was once again not claimed. The Cal Automotive first red-light bonus went to Dan Simmons, who went red by .004 in his first round matchup with Sarah Lockhart. Honorable mentions for the day go out to “Bullet” Bob Wilson for running 8.232 on his 8.23 dial in the first round, albeit on a losing effort to Corey LeClair, Mike Conway for a .009 light in the first round in a losing effort to Tom Drake Jr, Joy Linehan for running 9.328 on his 9.32 dial in the first round to defeat Don Meziere, Rob Strong for a .009 light in the first round to defeat Mark Miyashiro, Gatlin for a .007 light in the second round to defeat Sarah Lockhart, Corey LeClair for running 7.949 on his 7.94 dial in the second round to defeat Gary Mignaca, Tom Drake Jr for running a dead on 8.630 on his 8.63 dial in the second round to defeat Rob Strong, who had a great .001 light, Gabe Torres for a .009 light in the semis to defeat Drake Jr, and both the finalists for their dead on runs in the finals. The point’s battle is really starting to take shape now, with “Dead On” Don Gatlin having a one round lead over the rookie Zach Meziere. Rob Strong is in third, 3 rounds out of first, with Corey LeClair and Dan Simmons rounding out the top 5. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, it was Mike Agnew taking the double up and claiming his second victory in as many days by defeating George Chatterton III. Although Chatterton had a slight reaction time advantage, he took the stripe by a bit too much, giving Agnew his second victory in as many days in the double breakout affair. With his win, Agnew once again took advantage of the increased payout and claimed the $1000 prize, a SCEDA “Big Guy” trophy, and qualified for the ARP Race of Champions. In the semis, Chatterton had a bye and Agnew defeated Don Lutz. Agnew had the reaction time advantage and that gave him all the advantage to advance to his second final in as many days. The Arias Pistons dial rite was won by race winner Mike Agnew, who went 10.354 on his 10.35 dial to win the $180 prize. The West Coast Super Cops perfect light bonus was claimed by Broc Broaddus, who had a perfect light in the first round to defeat Terry Barkley. The Cal Automotive first red light award went to Dan Hermes, who went way red in the first round to JR Mora to claim the prize. Honorable mentions go to Broc Broaddus for his earlier mentioned perfect light, Chris Soliz for running 10.909 on his 10.90 dial in the first round to defeat Courtney Glover, Cynthia Lang for a .005 light in the first round to defeat Dan Wilder, Dick Krieger for a .002 light in the second round to defeat Broc Broaddus, Bryan Moffitt for running 13.331 on his 13.33 dial in the second round to defeat Cynthia Lang, George Chatterton III for running 8.607 on his 8.60 dial in the second round to defeat Branko Sindicich, Krieger again for a .003 light in the third round on a bye run, winner Mike Agnew for running a perfect 10.370 on his 10.37 dial to defeat Krieger in the fourth round, and Chatterton for running 8.601 on his 8.60 dial in the fourth round to defeat Eric Christianson who had a .008 light. The points battle is really starting to heat up with Dick Krieger in the lead, but with his weekends efforts, Mike Agnew has moved up into second, only 2 rounds out of first place and Dan Marciano, Sam Robinson IV, and Brad Cannon round out the top 5. In the Calvert Racing Suspension SCEDA Stock/Super Stock combo, it was Jeff Interlicchia taking the victory over John Brooks. Although Brooks had the reaction time advantage, he took a bit too much stripe and broke out, allowing Interlicchia to take the win. In the semis, Interlicchia defeated a red-lighting Doug Gibson. Brooks defeated current point’s leader Daniel McClelland. McClelland had the advantage on the starting line, but took a bit too big of a stripe and broke out by more in the double breakout affair. Honorable mentions for the day go out to winner Jeff Interlicchia for a .012 package in the first round to defeat Chad Langdon. He had a .005 light and ran 11.437 on his 11.43 dial to accomplish this task. Ed Drucker had a .001 light in the first round, although in a losing effort to Doug Gibson. The point’s picture has taken shape with Daniel McClelland in the lead by 4 rounds over Brett Brown. Jeff Interlicchia is in third, 5 rounds behind McClelland and Doug Gibson and Chad Langdon round out the top 5. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Jr Dragster class, it was Madison Whitten taking her first win ever, by defeating Chandler Meziere. In the ouble breakout, both cars broke out by .010, but Whitten got the victory by virtue of her .004 reaction time advantage. Congratulations Madison on your first ever WIN!!!! With the win, she received a SCEDA “Big Guy” trophy, and qualified for the year end ARP Race of Champions. In the semis, Meziere had a bye run, and Whitten defeated the hired guy, Brandon Phillips from Jonesboro GA. He went red by .021, allowing Whitten to advance into the final. The Arias Pistons dial rite was won by Zach Meziere, who ran a dead on 7.900 on his 7.90 dial to claim the $60 prize. The number one qualifier award sponsored by Dan Hepler, went to Cory Freedle, with a .001 light. Honorable mentions go out to DJ Houmard who ran 8.207 on his 8.20 dial in the first round to defeat Logan Daly, Brandyn Phillips for a .003 light in the second round to defeat DJ Houmard, winner Madison Whitten for running 7.931 on her 7.93 dial in the second round to defeat Ryan Houmard, Steven Brewer for having a .002 light in the second round, although on a losing effort to Ralphie Ramirez III, Corey Freedle for running 10.588 on his 10.58 dial in the third round, although losing to Brandon Phillips, and Madison Whitten for her 7.931 on her 7.93 dial in the semis to defeat Brandon Phillips. The point’s battle is really taking shape and heating up, with Ryan Diosdado going for two Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Jr. Dragster championships in a row. He has a 5 round lead over Zach Meziere, who is also second in Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics. Ryan Houmard and Chandler Meziere are tied for third, with DJ Houmard rounding out the top 5. The best appearing car was awarded to Ryan Tietz, who received a selection of Lucas Oil products, in his beautifully painted 32 altered. Just to show how amazing a weekend Mike Agnew had, he claimed both $1000 victories in Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E, for a total of $2000, as well as 2 SCEDA “Big Guy” trophies. With these wins, he secured his spot in the ARP Race of Champions. He also won the pair of Gatorz.com sunglasses that was donated for running dead on his dial in the second round on Saturday. On Sunday, he won the Arias Pistons Dial Rite for another $180, bringing his weekend total up to $2180. Because of his wins he moved up to second place in points, well within the reach of 2009 champion, Dick Krieger. The last SCEDA Series weekend should surely be full of excitement with all the racers vying for the championships. It is anyone’s race and hopefully we see all the racers on August 14 and 15 at the Auto Club Dragway, in Fontana CA. For those who have qualified for the ARP Race of Champions, the junior portion will be contested on Saturday August 14, with the adult portion on Sunday August 15. See you there! ### |

Race #9 October 18th, 2009 Auto Club Dragway: Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon
It was the final race of the season and the championships were still on the line in all three categories! Today would decide it all. Also the SCEDA Stock/Super Stock Combo was competing for bragging rights to see who would be the second ever winner.
In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics Category, it was Steve Bruns taking the victory over “Dead-On” Don Gatlin. Gatlin’s car had problems on the line, giving Bruns what should have been an easy victory. Bruns decided to run the car out the back door running 9.904 on his 9.90 dial to barely take the win. If he would have been .005 quicker, he would have broke out handing the win to Gatlin. By taking the win, Bruns qualified for the 2010 Shootout, received a SCEDA “Big Guy” Trophy, and received $1000. The runner up effort was enough for Gatlin to win the series championship, as Strong was defeated by eventual winner Bruns in the third round. Gatlin won the championship by only 22 points, 2 rounds of racing. In the semi-final race, it was Gatlin defeating John Brooks. Gatlin ran a 7.803 on his 7.80 dial to defeat Brooks who broke out by running 10.286 on his 10.29 dial. In the other semi final matchup, Bruns defeated Dave Meziere. Meziere went red by .005 handing Bruns the victory and the right to face the champ in the final round. The championship was decided in the third round when Bruns defeated Rob Strong. With Strong’s loss, Gatlin knew that all he had to do was win the round and he would be declared the champion. Gatlin faced Dustin Harris. Harris went red handing the round win, as well as the 2009 Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics Category Championship, to “Dead-On” Don Gatlin. Congrats to Don on being the Champ!!!! Congratulations to our other top finishers - Rob Strong in second place, Mark Kirby in third, Sam Boyd in fourth, and Brian Fischle rounded out the top 5. Positions 3 through 5 were only separated by 11 points, or 1 round of racing! Honorable mentions for the day went out to Bill Lockhart for his .001 light in the first round, albeit in a losing effort to Marvin Roles, Jeff Murdock for a .005 light in the first round to defeat Tony Broussard, John Gidcumb for running 8.745 on his 8.74 dial to defeat Gerald Palacios in the first round, Saturday’s winner Sam Boyd for having a .003 light in the first round, albeit in a losing effort to “Dead-On” Don “The Champ” Gatlin, John Brooks for having a .002 light on his first round bye run, Gatlin for having a .006 light and running 7.810 on his 7.81 dial in the second round for a .016 package to defeat Mark Kirby, who had a perfect light on that run, and Dave Meziere for having a perfect light on his third round bye run. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by John Brooks who went 10.292 on his 10.29 dial to take the victory.
In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Category, it was Jeff Interlicchia taking the victory over former Pinks All-Out champion Ken Long. Interlicchia had the better reaction time, and that gave him the advantage to defeat Long’s 10.648 on his 10.64 dial. In the semi-finals, Long had the bye run. In the other matchup, Interlicchia defeated Jack Swanson. By doing this he became Dick Krieger’s biggest friend. This clinched the championship for Krieger. Swanson had the better reaction time, but his car was not able to run the number, ending his hopes of winning the race and the championship. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Val Houmard who went 10.602 on her 10.60 dial to take the win. Honorable mentions go out to Mike Davis who ran 10.534 on his 10.53 dial in the first round to defeat Jeff McDaniel, Mark Simonian for having a .007 light and then running 10.700 on his 10.70 dial in the first round for a .007 package to defeat Chris Vels, Brad Cannon for having a .001 light in the first round to defeat John Joines, Joy Linehan for running 11.616 on her 11.61 dial in the first round to defeat Cynthia Lang, winner Jeff Interlicchia for having a .008 light in the first round to defeat Jack Shippy, Rob Goode for running 10.794 on his 10.79 dial in the first round to defeat Saturday’s SCEDA Stock/Super Stock Combo winner Kyle Rizzoli, Scott Joines for running 10.698 on his 10.69 dial in the first round to defeat CW Hoefer, George Chatterton III for running 8.674 on his 8.67 dial in the second round on a red light losing effort to Mark Miyashiro who ran 10.158 on his 10.15 on that same run, Mark Simonian for having a .005 light in the second round to defeat Ryan Priddy, Mark Miyashiro for running 10.176 on his 10.17 dial in the third round to defeat Brad Cannon, David Maynor for running 12.142 on his 12.14 dial in the third round to defeat Mike Agnew, Jack Swanson for running 12.009 on his 12.00 dial in the third round to defeat Peter Berkuta, Ken Long for running 10.633 on his 10.63 dial in the fourth round to defeat Mark Simonian, and Jack Swanson for a .001 light in the fourth round to defeat Mark Miyashiro. The series championship went to Dick Krieger by 12 points over Jack Swanson. In third place was Dwayne Eastridge only 14 points behind Krieger. The team of Interlicchia/Conway took fourth and Scott Joines took 5th place in a tie over Mike Agnew. Once again congrats to Dick Krieger on being the 2009 Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Champion!!!!
In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Junior Dragsters, it was Zach Meziere taking the win over Chris Nagy. By winning Zach Meziere qualified for the 2010 Shootout, received a SCEDA “Big Guy” Trophy, and received a $300 savings bond. Chris Nagy had the better reaction time but broke out by more in the double breakout affair. This allowed Zach Meziere to take the win. In the semi-finals, Zach Meziere had the bye run. Chris Nagy Defeated Jordan Summers. Chris Nagy had the better reaction time and ran 7.982 on his 7.98 dial to complete the deal and advance into the final round. The Cannon Family Sponsored #1 qualifier award went to Cory Freedle again. The Ball Family Sponsored award for who took out the #1 qualifier went to Zach Meziere who defeated Cory Freedle in round #1. The Scot Paul Best Package in the First Round award went to Tori Brown who had a .009 package. The Houmard Family put up a $20 bounty for the racer to take out Chandler Meziere and this went to Chelsey Freedle who defeated Chandler in round 1. This was also the last junior drag race ever for three of our competitors, as they age out of junior dragster competition at the end of this year. Tori Brown, who has raced in the SCEDA Junior dragster category since it started, ended her junior career in the third round when she lost to Jordan Summers. Kelly Davis’s junior career ended in the third round as well when she lost to eventual winner Zach Meziere. Brett Lenarth’s junior career ended in the second round when he lost to Tori Brown. Going into that matchup, it was known that someone’s career was ending that pair and it was Brett who did not get to advance another round. Good luck to all of the age-outs in their future racing careers. The championship was decided in the second round when Brandon Seraphine lost to Kelly Davis. This clinched the championship for Ryan Diosdado who lost later in the second round. Also good luck to Tori Brown, Kelly Davis, and Brett Lenarth in their future endeavors and we hope to see all of them move up into either No-E or Electronics. |
Race #8 October 17th, 2009 Auto Club Dragway: Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon
In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics Category, it was Sam Boyd taking the victory over Chris Forsyth. Boyd had the better reaction time by .005 and was able to run closer to his dial to take the victory. By winning, Boyd qualified for the 2010 Pacific High Reach Shootout, received a SCEDA “Big Guy” Trophy, and received $1000. In the semi-finals, Boyd defeated Ken Hemstreet. Hemstreet went red by .011, allowing Boyd to advance into the final round. In the other semi-final matchup, Forsyth defeated Sarah Lockhart. Forsyth had the better reaction time, and that gave him the advantage to take the victory and be the other competitor in the final round. Rob Strong lost in the second round to take a 1 round advantage over Don Gatlin. The battle for the championship would lead down to the final day and the final race. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Greg Tremain who ran a perfect 9.470 on his 9.47 dial in a losing effort to eventual semi-finalist Sarah Lockhart in the first round, Greg Peterson for his .001 light in the first round to defeat John Brooks, Mark Kirby for having a .002 light in the first round in a losing effort to Natalie Jones, Bob Pringle for a .005 light in the first round to defeat Harold Meziere, Mel Leforbes for a .003 light in the first round to defeat Dave Meziere, Dave Meziere for running 8.088 on his 8.08 dial in the first round in a red-light losing effort to Leforbes, eventual winner Sam Boyd for a .009 light in the second round to defeat Bob Pringle, eventual semi-finalist Sarah Lockhart for a .001 light in the second round to defeat Jay Shelton, and eventual semi-finalist Sarah Lockhart for a perfect .000 reaction time in the third round to defeat Jim Shelton. The stage had been set for the battle in the last race for the championship. As mentioned earlier, Rob Strong had a one round advantage over Don Gatlin. Sunday would decide the champion. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Ken Hemstreet who ran 9.449 on his 9.44 dial to take the victory.
In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Category, it was Rick Leininger taking the victory over Val Houmard. It is interesting to note that this was Rick’s first time out with his car in several years and his first time out with SCEDA. This was also Val’s first time back in her 1984 El Camino in around a year as she had an unfortunate incident in her roadster a few weeks earlier. In the final, Houmard went .039 red giving Leininger the win and ending a Cinderella day for him. In the semi-finals, Houmard defeated “semi-final” CW Hoefer. Houmard had the better reaction time and ran closer to her dial to take the victory and advance to the final. In the other semi-final matchup, Leininger defeated Erwin Cuellar. Leininger had a great .001 light and ran 10.760 on his 10.75 dial for a .011 package to advance into the final round. The points battle didn’t get shaken up much at the top as all of the players went out early, making for Sunday to be the day to decide it all. Honorable mentions go out to Mike Agnew for running a perfect 10.430 on his 10.43 dial in the first round to defeat Brad Cannon, John Brooks for having a .006 light in the first round to defeat Matt Miyashiro, Cynthia Lang for running 12.255 on her 12.25 dial in the first round on a losing effort to David Maynor, Ken Long for a perfect light in the second round, Chris Davis for running 10.126 on his 10.12 dial to defeat Craig Hoefer in the second round, Glenn Forbush for having a .002 light in the second round on a losing effort to semi-finalist CW Hoefer. Winner Rick Leininger for running 10.754 on his 10.75 dial in the second round to defeat John Joines, and John Brooks for a .001 light in the 4th round on a losing effort to Erwin Cuellar. The Arias Pistons Dial Right Program was not able to be contested in this class due to a computer glitch. The championship battle was all but locked up for Dick Krieger. All he had to do was win one round of racing to clinch. If he did not, then Jack Swanson would have to win the race in order to win the championship and take it away from Krieger.
In the inaugural SCEDA Stock/Super Stock Combo race, it was Kyle Rizzoli taking the win over Mike Johnston. These two were # 5 and 6 in the division last year respectively and the final lived up to all expectations. Rizzoli had the reaction time advantage, but Johnston ran closer to his dial. Rizzoli’s margin of victory was .0041. Congrats to Kyle Rizzoli on being the Inaugural SCEDA Stock/Super Stock Combo Winner. By winning, Rizzoli received $800, a SCEDA “Big Guy” Trophy, and received a $75 gift certificate from Jim DeFrank. Rizzoli’s $800 winnings included a $100 Bonus from Dave Bridgewater. In the semi-finals, Rizzoli defeated Don Keen. Rizzoli had the better reaction time and that gave him the advantage even though Keen ran closer to his dial. Johnston had the bye in the other semi final and just simply broke the beam to advance into the final round. This class was being tested as a pilot for possibly getting added to the series next year. It went down with great success and a great car count of 42 cars on Saturday. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Mike Johnston who went 11.068 on his 11.05 dial to win. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Shane Studley for running 10.190 on his 10.19 dial in the first round to defeat John Calvert, Larry Belden for running 10.451 on his 10.45 dial in first round to defeat John Irving who went 12.627 on his 12.67 dial (MOV .006), Mike Williams for having a .005 light in the first round to defeat Tony Mandella, Don Keen for a .010 light and running 10.892 on his 10.89 dial for a .012 package in the first round to defeat Carl Battis, Doug Gibson for having a .009 light in the first round to defeat Nick Czuczko, and Tim Hall for running 10.792 on his 10.79 dial in the second round to defeat Leo Glassbrenner.

In the semi-finals, Chandler Meziere had the bye run. In the other matchup, Ryan Houmard defeated Brandon Seraphine. Seraphine went .008 red allowing Ryan Houmard to advance to the final round. By his performance today, Seraphine pulled within 1 round of point’s leader Ryan Diosdado. The two will duke it out on Sunday for the Championship. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Brandon Seraphine who ran 7.967 on his 7.96 dial to win. The Cannon Family sponsored award of $25 for the #1 qualifier went to Cory Freedle. Pacific High Reach Shootout October 17th, 2009 Auto Club Dragway: Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon
In the 2nd annual SCEDA Series year-end Pacific High Reach Shootout, it was John Joines taking the victory over Ryan Mangus, making the No-E cars the winners going 2 for 2 during the history of shootout. To earn the win, John Joines had the better reaction time and broke out by less in the double breakout affair to take the $1600 winner take all victory. Congratulations to both John Joines on his win and to Ryan Mangus for getting to the final round.
To qualify for this event, participants had to win a race in either Electronics or No E during the 2009 season and there was no SCEDA entry fee. The Pacific High Reach Shootout qualifiers for 2009 were; Ryan Priddy, Charlie Boyd, Jeff Interlicchia, Rhobert Strong, Scott Joines, Sam Boyd, John Joines, Don Gatlin, Dwayne Eastridge, Brian Fischle, Ryan Mangus, Andrew Madrid, Dick Krieger, Dave Meziere, Val Torres Jr., and David Maynor.
In the semi-finals, the first matchup was an all Joines affair with John defeating brother, Scott. Scott had the better reaction time, but John ran a 14.242 on his 14.24 dial to take the win. In the other semi-final, Ryan Mangus defeated David Maynor. Maynor had the better reaction time, but broke out by more in another double breakout. This set the stage for the final. As a point of interest, none of the Electronics cars advanced past the second round when John Joines defeated the last of the Electronic cars standing, which was Rob Strong, insuring another No-E Winner. A special thanks to Pacific High Reach for helping SCEDA to put on this outstanding event and congratulations to all the participants and especially John Joines on taking the win. By winning John qualified himself for the 2010 shootout event as well. |

October 17th and 18th 2009 final events of the season
AUGUST 28th and 29th CANCELED BY TRACK.
SCEDA Race #7 August 9, 2009 Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics Series, it was Val Torres Jr. taking the victory over Rodger Comstock. Torres Jr. had the better reaction time and that gave him all the advantage that he needed to take the stripe and the win. Along with the win, Torres Jr. also got a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, $1000, and was the last electronics racer to qualify for the Pacific High Reach Shootout. In the semi-finals, Torres Jr. defeated Jason Dawson where he had the better reaction time and forced Dawson to run under his dial in an effort to take the stripe. In the other semi-final, Comstock defeated John Brooks. Comstock had the better reaction time and ran closer to his dial to take the win and advance into the final. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Larry Rosenbaum. He ran 8.277 on his 8.27 dial to take the $130 prize. The Cal Automotive first red light in eliminations went to Brian Fischle. The points battle is really shaping up with only two races to go. Don Gatlin and Rob Strong are currently tied for first with 406 points. Brian Fischle is in third with 329 points. Mark Kirby and Sarah Lockhart round out the top 5. The last race weekend will surely be an interesting one with the battle between Gatlin and Strong. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Series, it was David Maynor taking his first SCEDA win over Brad Cannon. Maynor had the better reaction time and forced Cannon to break out by more in the double breakout as he tried to get the top end stripe. By taking the win, Maynor got a SCEDA big guy trophy, $656 , and qualified for the Pacific High Reach Shootout. He is the last No-Electronics car to qualify. In the semi-finals, Maynor defeated John Brooks. Maynor once again had the better light and broke out by less in the double breakout affair. In the other semi, Cannon had the buy run to take the easy advance into the final. The Arias Pistons dial rite was won by John Brooks who went 10.321 on his 10.32 dial to take the $160 prize. The Cal Automotive award for the first red light in eliminations went to Peter Berkuta who was red in the first pair out. Ron Miller from West Coast Super Cops put up $100 for the first person to have a perfect reaction time in eliminations. This award was claimed by Dan Simmons in the second round of Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E. So the points battle is really taking shape now. Dick Krieger still has the lead, with Jack Swanson in second. Dwayne Eastridge is in third 21 points behind Swanson, Scott Joines in fourth 2 points behind Eastridge, and John Joines and Brad Cannon tied for 5th 10 points behind S. Joines. Peter Berkuta is in 7th 1 point behind Cannon/J. Joines, and the team of Interlicchia/Conway in 8th 1 point behind Perkuta. David Hoyt is in 9th 10 points behind Team Interlicchia/Conway and Sam Robinson rounds out the top 10, 10 points behind Hoyt. The last race weekend should surely be an interesting one. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, it was Zach Meziere taking the win over younger brother Chandler Meziere in an all Meziere final. Zach had the better reaction time off the line and that was all he needed to propel him to the victory over his younger brother. By winning, Zach also got a SCEDA Big Guy Trophy and became the last racer to qualify for the Pacific High Reach Shootout for Juniors. In the semi-finals, Chandler defeated Drew Upton. Upton went way red allowing Chandler to be the first Meziere to advance to the finals. In the other semi-final matchup, it was Zach defeating Adrienne Markham. Meziere had the better light and that was all he needed to advance to the final and complete the all Meziere Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories final. The Kowalski Family #1 qualifier award went to Adrienne Markham who had a .002 reaction time in qualifying. The Ball Family award for the person who takes out the #1 qualifier went to eventual winner Zach Meziere who defeated Markham in the semi-finals. Lizzy Halley won the Scot Paul Sponsored award for the best package in the first round. So the points battle with two races to go has Ryan Diosdado in the lead by 44 points over Brandon Seraphine. Lizzy Halley is in third, Zach Meziere moved up to fourth, and Zac Bogner, Avery Brown, Kelly Davis, Ryan Houmard, and Chandler Meziere are all tied for fifth. These points are without throwouts however so it will definitely be a tight points battle and the last weekend should be a good one to watch. |

SCEDA Series Race #5 July 4th, 2009 Auto Club Dragway, Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon In the SCEDA Series Meziere Enterprises Electronics class it was Andrew Madrid taking the win over Tom Bayer Sr. Bayer who went red, handing Madrid his first SCEDA victory. By winning the event, Madrid qualified to take part in the Pacific High Reach Shootout at the end of the year. He also got a nice payday of $1000 and a SCEDA Big Buy trophy. In the semis, Madrid defeated Don Gatlin. Madrid was better on the tree and that gave him the advantage over Gatlin. In the other semi, Bayer defeated Rob Strong. Bayer had a better light and was able to run closer to his dial to defeat Strong. It is interesting to note that the 2 semi finalists were number 1 and 2 in the series points standings. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Don Gatlin who ran 7.843 on his 7.84 dial to take the $70 prize. Cal Automotive gave $50 to the first person to go red in eliminations and today this award went to Greg Tremain who went red by .001 the first pair out. I guess he wanted to make sure that he got some money for the day. Honorable mentions go out to Ken Buck for running 8.590 on his 8.59 dial in the first round to defeat Chris Lee of Cal Automotive, Mark Kirby for going .003 in the first round to defeat Harold Meziere of Meziere Enterprises, eventual runner up Tom Bayer Sr for having a .001 light in the first round to defeat Dave Gotts, eventual winner Andrew Madrid for running 7.498 on his 7.49 dial in the first round to defeat Alan Hoefer, Arias Pistons Dial Rite winner Don Gatlin for running 7.860 on his 7.86 dial in the first round to defeat Lee Davidson, Arias Pistons Dial Rite winner Don Gatlin for running 7.861 on his 7.86 dial in the second round to defeat race 3 winner Brian Fischle, Mark Kirby for having a .008 light in the second round to defeat Ken Buck, Jesi Workman for running 8.713 on her 8.71 dial in the second round albeit on a losing effort to eventual winner Andrew Madrid, and Rob Strong for having a .004 light in the third round to defeat Chuck Babcock who also had a great light a .001. It sure seems that with all those honorable mentions, Don Gatlin was surely living up to his nickname one again, Dead-On Don. In the SCEDA Series Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-Electronics Class, it was Dick Krieger taking the victory over Marvin Roles. Krieger was once again taking advantage of the split tree option using the Pro tree and doing good once again. It seems as if no one wanted to win the final as both competitors had horrible reaction times in the final, but Krieger had the better light and that gave him all the advantage that he needed to take his first SCEDA Series victory. By taking the win, Krieger qualified for the year end Pacific High Reach Shootout, got $816, and won a SCEDA Big Guy Trophy. In the semis, Krieger defeated Chris Soliz. Soliz went red by .014 and that enabled Krieger to take the easy win and advance to his second SCEDA Series final of the year. In the other semi, Roles defeated Mike Agnew. Roles had the better reaction time and that gave him all the advantage that he needed to march on in to the final round. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by John Joines who ran a 14.252 on his 14.25 dial to take the $140 prize. Cal Automotive also gave $50 to the first competitor to go red in No-E as well and today it was Jack Shippy winning the $50. He went red by .206 in the second pair out against eventual runner up Marvin Roles to claim the prize. Ron Miller and West Coast Super Cops had put up $100 to anyone who could cut a perfect light in eliminations both days at our last event. However, no one claimed this on Sunday, so it carried over to this race. Well, in the third round of SCEDA Series Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-E, it was eventual semi finalist Mike Agnew claiming the prize with a perfect light to defeat CW Hoefer. Honorable Mentions go out to Daniel McClelland for running 13.573 on his 13.57 dial to defeat Wayne Taylor in the first round, Courtney Glover for having a .003 light and running 10.082 on his 10.08 dial in the first round for a .005 package to defeat Brad Cannon, Scott Joines for having a .006 light in the first round to defeat John Mason, CW Hoefer for running 12.827 on his 12.82 dial in the first round to defeat girlfriend Sacha Nettles, former “Pinks All Out” winner Ken Long for running 10.646 on his 10.64 dial in the first round to defeat Ryan Mangus, Courtney Glover who ran 10.057 on his 10.05 dial in the second round even though it was not enough to get it done against Daniel McClelland, Ken Long for running 10.626 on his 10.62 dial in the second round to defeat Craig Hoefer, Marvin Roles for running 10.207 on his 10.20 dial in the second round to defeat Mark Miyashiro, Mike Agnew for his earlier mentioned perfect light in the third round to defeat CW Hoefer and claim the West Coast Super Cops prize, George Chatterton III for running 8.662 on his 8.66 dial in the third round even though it was not enough to get it done against Dale Hicks, Chris Soliz for running a perfect 10.980 on his 10.98 dial in the third round to defeat Wayne Hoover, and Marvin Roles for running 10.202 on his 10.20 dial in the 4th round to defeat Dale Hicks. By the amount of honorable mentions in SCEDA Meziere Enterprises Electronics and in SCEDA Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-E, one may be able to see, but the weather was just great today. Plus a rarity for Fontana, the wind stayed relatively constant all day long. In the SCEDA Series Terminator Blocks, Clutches and Accessories Junior Dragster class it was Lizzy Halley taking the win over Brandon Seraphine. Brandon Seraphine went red by .008 handing Halley another SCEDA victory. She would have been tough to beat though as she went 7.945 on her 7.94 dial in the final. By winning, Halley qualified for the Pacific High Reach Shootout at the end of the year and got a SCEDA Big Guy Trophy. In the semis, Halley defeated Justin Ball. Justin Ball ran 8.939 on his 8.93 dial but that was not enough to get it done over Halley. In the other semi, it was Brandon Seraphine defeating Kyle Nagy. Nagy went red by .003 to foul away his shot at advancing to the finals. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Sami Ball who ran 8.018 on her 8.01 to take the $90 award. The Riverside Transmission/Kowalski Family award for the number 1 qualifier went to Kaetlyn Rice who had a perfect light on her one and only qualifying pass. The Ball Family Sponsored $25 movie card to the person who takes out the #1 qualifier went to Jason Dennell who defeated Rice in the second round. Rice had the advantage off the line, but the car was not able to run the number allowing Dennell to take the win. The Scot Paul sponsored $50 savings bond for the best package in the first round went to Brandon Seraphine who had a .009 light and ran 7.949 on his 7.90 dial for a .058 dial to defeat Gennesis Coombs. The Houmard Family $20 bounty to whoever can take out the previous race winner went to Kyle Nagy who defeated Ryan Diosdado in the second round. Honorable mentions go out to Brandyn Willoughby for running 7.949 on his 7.94 dial in the first round to defeat Evan Kowalski, AJ Fernandez who ran 7.904 on his 7.90 dial in the first round albeit he went red and lost to Julia Marcum, Brianna Blinzler for running 7.908 on her 7.90 dial in the first round to defeat DJ Houmard, Brandon Seraphine for his earlier mentioned .009 light in the first round, Kelly Davis for a .009 light in the second round to defeat Julia Marcum, Kyle Nagy for running 8.906 on his 8.90 dial in the second round to defeat Ryan Diosdado and claim the Houmard Family Bounty, Brandon Seraphine for having a .007 light and running 7.903 on his 7.90 dial for a .010 package in the second round to defeat Laura Higgins, Justin Ball for running 8.937 on his 8.93 dial in the third round to defeat Jason Dennell, and Lizzy Halley for running 7.945 on her 7.94 dial in the final round to take the win over Brandon Seraphine. SCEDA Series Race #6 July 5th, 2009 Auto Club Dragway, Fontana, CA By: Brad Cannon In the SCEDA Series Meziere Enterprises Electronics class, it was Dave Meziere of Meziere Enterprises taking the victory over “Dead-On” Don Gatlin. Gatlin went red by .003 handing Meziere the win, but he would have been tough to beat. Meziere was .005 on the tree and ran 8.120 on his 8.10 dial. By winning the race, Meziere qualified for the Pacific High Reach Shootout at the end of the year, won a nice $1000 payout, and got a SCEDA Big Guy Trophy. Being the runner up on the day, Gatlin was still able to take over the points lead and is now 1 round ahead of Rob Strong. In the semis, Meziere had the bye run, but still managed to put together an amazing .002 package. He was .001 on the tree and ran 8.101 on his 8.10 dial. In the other semi it was Gatlin defeating Alan Hoefer. Gatlin had the better tree and that gave him all the advantage that he needed to take the victory. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Dead On Don Gatlin who ran on his dial with an 8 to take the $70 prize. This was not the closest to the dial, but the two who were closer to the dials on their car decided not to participate in the Arias Pistons Dial Rite. Cal Automotive once again gave $50 to the first competitor to go red in eliminations and today that went to Danny Fuentes. He went red by .016 in the first round to lose to Tim Smith. Honorable mention for the day go out to Marvin Roles who ran 10.191 on his 10.19 dial in the first round to defeat Jesi Workman, #2 in points Rob Strong who ran 11.062 on his 11.06 dial in the first round even though it was not enough to get it done against Dave Gotts, eventual runner up Dead-On Don Gatlin for having a .009 light in the second round to defeat Chuck Babcock, eventual Meziere Dave Meziere for having a .008 light and running 8.117 on his 8.11 dial in the second round for a .015 package to defeat Tim Smith, Dead-On Don again for running 7.849 on his 7.84 dial in the third round to defeat good friend Mark Kirby who ran 10.624 on his 10.62 dial, and eventual winner Dave Meziere for his earlier mentioned .002 package in the semis and his .005 light in the final. It sure seemed that Meziere was on his game today, which is even more impressive when he was just running to shake down and test his son Zach’s new dragster. Also, this was the first time that Dave Meziere had been in a car in over 5 years. It looks like Zach may have some competition for the driver’s seat. So the points battle is really starting to take shape with 4 races left in the season. Don Gatlin is in first 11 points ahead of Rob Strong. Brian Fischle is in third, but 66 points out. Mark Kirby and Sam Boyd round out the top 5, with those two only being separated by 1 point. Sarah Lockhart is in 6th, only 4 points out of 4th. In the SCEDA Series Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-E class it was Scott Joines taking the win over Dick Krieger. Krieger went red by .022 handing Joines the easy victory and stopping Krieger’s round win streak at 11. By taking the win, Scott Joines qualified for the Pacific High Reach Shootout at the end of the year, got $720, and received a SCEDA Big Guy Trophy. By being the runner up, Krieger took over the points lead and is now dominating the class. In the past four events the worst that Krieger has done is a quarter final finish. During this 4 race span, he has a win, 2 runner ups, and a quarter final. In the semis, Scott Joines had the bye run, but still put together a .009 package. He was .008 red and win 10.701 on his 10.70 dial. In the other semi, it was a rematch of Saturday’s final and the outcome was the same too, Krieger defeated Marvin Roles. Roles had the advantage off the line but broke out trying to hold off the hard charging Krieger who ran a perfect 8.450 on his 8.45 dial. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Ken Plouffe who ran 12.444 on his 12.44 dial to win the $180 prize. Mark Miyashiro ran a 10.194 on his 10.19 dial in the Arias Pistons Dial Rite, but Plouffe had the better reaction time and that was the tie breaker and gave Plouffe the money. The Cal Automotive Sponsored $50 award for the first person to go red in eliminations went to Dan Hermes who went red by .027 in the first round against Craig Hoefer. Honorable Mentions go out to Tim Duffy for having a perfect light in the first round to defeat David Hoyt, Ken Long who ran 10.637 on his 10.63 dial in the first round to defeat George Chatterton III who had a .008 light, Erwin Cuellar who had a .006 light in the first round to defeat Kaitlyn McGee who had a .007 reaction time, Arias Pistons Dial Rite Winner Ken Plouffe for running 12.446 on his 12.44 dial on his bye run in the first round, Courtney Glover for running 10.057 on his 10.05 dial in the second round even though it was not enough to get it done against Ryan Mangus, Chris Vels for running 10.393 on his 10.39 dial in the third round to defeat Brad Cannon, CW Hoefer who ran 12.778 on his 12.77 dial in the third round to defeat Mike Agnew, runner up Dick Krieger for running 8.489 on his 8.48 dial in the third round on a bye run, and Scott Joines for his earlier mentioned .009 package in the semi finals on his bye run. The points battle is taking shape now with 4 races to go and it is Dick Krieger in the lead with a 76 point advantage over Jack Swanson and Dwayne Eastridge. Peter Berkuta is in 4th, 13 points behind Swanson and Eastridge and John Joines rounds out the top 5, 9 points behind Berkuta. 1 point behind John Joines is his brother Scott Joines and Sam Robinson, Team Interlicchia/Conway, Ryan Mangus, and David Hoyt round out the top 10. In the SCEDA Series Terminator Blocks, Clutches and Accessories Junior Dragster class it was Avery Brown taking the win over Brandon Seraphine. This was Brandon Seraphine’s second final in as many days, but he was unsuccessful at winning both days. Avery Brown had the better light and was able to run on the right side of his dial to take the win as Brandon Seraphine broke out. By winning, Avery Brown qualified for the Pacific High Reach Shootout at the end of the year and got a SCEDA Big Guy Trophy. In the semis, Avery Brown defeated Drew Upton in a matchup that neither wanted to win, Upton had the better of the two lights, but Avery Brown ran closer to his dial. In the other semi, Brandon Seraphine defeated Brandyn Willoughby. Willoughby went red by .006 fouling his chance away at advancing to the final. The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Brianna Blinzler who ran 7.901 on her 7.90 dial to take the $100 prize. The Riverside Transmission/Kowalski Family $25 award for the number 1 qualifier went to Tori Brown. She had a .005 reaction time in her qualifying session. The Ball Family $25 movie card for the person who takes out the number 1 qualifier went to Tori’s brother Avery Brown who defeated her in round 1. Tori went red by .040 in the first round handing brother Avery the easy win and the $25 movie card. The Scot Paul $50 saving bond for the best package in the first round went to Brenda Seraphine who had a .035 light and ran 7.949 on her 7.92 dial for a .064 package to claim the award. It is impressive that both Brandon and Brenda Seraphine claimed this award this weekend. The Houmard Family $20 bounty for taking out the previous day’s winner went to Drew Upton who defeated Lizzy Halley in the second round. Upton had the better light and that gave him all the advantage that he needed to take the win. Honorable mentions go out to Daniel Fuentes for running 12.905 on his 12.90 dial n the first round to defeat Brandon Moreno, Ryan Diosdado for his .009 light in the third round even though it was not enough to win the round as he had issues down track and lost to Brandyn Willoughby, and Brandon Seraphine for running a perfect 7.900 on his 7.90 dial in the third round. The point’s battle after 6 races is starting to take shape and Ryan Diosdado is currently in first with 417 points, Brandon Seraphine is in second with 351 points, Lizzy Halley in third with 307 points, Kyle Nagy in fourth with 285 points and Zac Bogner and Avery Brown tied for fifth with 274 points. SCEDA would like to thank all of their sponsored for their support of the SCEDA Series. Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels were also there with their truck this weekend and we would like to thank them for that. Thanks to everyone for a great weekend and hopefully we see everyone as well as more new people at the next event August 8th and 9th at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana!

SCEDA Race #1 Results January 17, 2009, Fontana, CA
By: Brad Cannon Meziere Enterprises has come back on board with SCEDA for the 2009 season as the sponsor of the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics Category. Likewise, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels has come back to be the sponsor for the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Category. Also, they will have their truck out at selected events selling tires. New to SCEDA this year is Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories. They have stepped up to be the title sponsor of the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Junior Dragster Category. Also new to SCEDA this year is Pacific High Reach. They have stepped up to be the sponsor of the Pacific High Reach Shootout for Electronics and No E combined and the Pacific High Reach Shootout for Juniors at the last weekend of the year. Yet another new sponsor to SCEDA this year is Arias Pistons. Arias Pistons is one of the original after-market piston manufacturers that is still owned and operated by the founding family. They have stepped up to become the sponsor of the Arias Pistons Dial Rite program, which is now being contested in Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E, and Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Junior Dragsters. Now that you’ve heard about all the sponsors of SCEDA, let’s move on to what happened at the first two races. In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics category, it was Sam Boyd taking the victory over 2008 series runner-up, Rhobert Strong. Both cars went red, and in fact Sam Boyd was more red, but Strong had the slower car and went red first, giving Sam Boyd the win. By taking the win, Sam Boyd also qualified to be in the Pacific High Reach Shootout at the end of the year. In the semi-finals, Sam Boyd had the bye run and Strong defeated Gary Mignaca. Strong had the better light on the line and that was all he needed to take the victory over Mignaca. Is also worth noting the father/son matchup in the third round, as Sam Boyd defeated his son John Boyd. John had the better light, but took too big a stripe and broke out. Honorable mentions go out to eventual winner Sam Boyd for running 8.012 on his 8.01 dial in the first round to defeat 2008 Rookie of the Year Sarah Lockhart, 2008 Series Champion John Brooks for having a perfect light in the first round (unfortunately he lost the round to Kenny Snow), eventual semi-finalist Gary Mignaca for having a .007 light in the first round, and eventual winner Sam Boyd again for running a 8.005 on his 8.00 dial in the second round. This was a tough day that was plagued by carnage and oil downs. Because of this, only one time run was given to the competitors and the Arias Pistons Dial-Rite was not competed today. Tough luck goes out to Steve Bruns who broke a motor and hit the guardrail. Steve was apparently okay, as they did not transport him to the hospital, but his car was severely damaged. Tough luck also goes out to Brian Fischle for blowing his motor up. He was the car in the other lane when Bruns crashed, but this was not the run that he lost the motor. The Fischle team was able to make an all night thrash to get a new motor in the car for Sunday and we will have more on that later. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E category, it was John Joines taking the victory over Captain Jack Swanson. John Joines had the better light and ran closer to his dial to take the win. Also, by taking the victory, John Joines qualified to be in the Pacific High Reach Shootout at the end of the year. In the semi-final, it was Swanson taking the victory over Ryan Priddy. Both cars were almost equal in leaving the line, but Priddy broke out by more in the double breakout affair. In the other semi-final, John Joines defeated Jennifer Silvey. John Joines had the better light and broke out by less in the double breakout affair. Honorable mentions go out to David Hoyt for having a perfect light in the first round, Jennifer Silvey for running 11.558 on her 11.55 dial in the first round, Ron Danly for having a .001 light in the first round, Peter Berkuta for running 11.551 on his 11.55 dial in the second round, Jeff Zogg for running 9.406 on his 9.40 dial in the second round, Jose Torres for having a .006 light in the third round, and eventual runner up Jack Swanson for having a .006 light in the third round. The Arias Pistons Dial-Rite was not competed in this class today because of the amount of downtime. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, it was Ryan Diosdado taking the victory over Zac Bogner. Diosdado had the better light and was able to break out by less in the double breakout affair. Also, by winning this race, Diosdado qualified to be in the year-end Pacific High Reach Shootout for Juniors at the end of the year. In the semi-finals, it was Bogner defeating Zach Meziere. Bogner had a great .005 light and was able to run closer to his dial to take the win. In the other semi-final match-up, it was Diosdado defeating Tori Brown. Tori Brown unfortunately went red by .003 giving Diosdado the automatic win and advance into the final. This was a great run for Tori though as she was supposed to be done driving after last year, but couldn’t resist the opportunity to come back for one more year to try and win the SCEDA Big Guy Trophy. Honorable mentions for the day go out to eventual semi-finalist Tori Brown for running 8.103 on her 8.10 dial in the first round, 2008 series champion Jason Dennell for running 8.084 on his 8.08 dial in the first round, eventual winner Ryan Diosdado fur running a perfect 7.980 on his 7.98 dial in the second round, eventual semi-finalist Zach Meziere for running 7.975 on his 7.97 dial in the second round, eventual semi-finalist Tori Brown again for running 8.202 on her 8.20 dial in the third round, eventual winner Diosdado again for having a .006 light in the third round, and eventual runner-up Zac Bogner for his .005 light in the semi-finals. The best package in the first round $50 Savings Bond sponsored by Scot Paul went to Tori Brown. She had a .045 reaction time and ran dead on her dial with a 4 for a .049 package to win this award. The number 1 qualifier was Ryan Diosdado, whose .006 reaction time in the qualifying session earned him the top spot. As this award is not sponsored yet this season, he received $10 cash from Jim Morosan. If you would like to sponsor this award, please contact SCEDA. The Ball Family $25 movie card for the person who takes out the number one qualifier went to the number one qualifier, as Diosdado won the event from the top spot. This meant that he got to keep his own bounty! This is the first time since this award came around that the number one qualifier has gotten to keep their own bounty. Also, due to the massive amount of downtime that happened throughout the morning, the Arias Pistons dial-rite was not competed today in the Juniors. They will have to wait until tomorrow for their first shot at the Arias Pistons Dial-Rite.
Race #2 Results January 18, 2009 Fontana, CA
By: Brad Cannon In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics Category, it was Don Gatlin taking the victory over Brian Fischle. Gatlin had a slightly better light and was able to force Fischle to break out trying to take the stripe. Gatlin also has qualified for the Pacific High Reach Shootout by taking the victory today. It was truly amazing that Fischle was able to make any rounds today, let alone a runner-up showing. If you recall from earlier, Fischle blew up his motor in the second round on Saturday. The team worked all night Saturday as well as part of Sunday morning to get a new motor put in and they were good to go from there. Also, Fischle was the car in the other lane when Steve Bruns crashed. From a bad start to the weekend, it sure ended pretty well for the Fischle team. In the semi-finals Gatlin had a bye run and Fischle defeated Gerald Palacios. Palacios had the better light, but his car fell way off its dial giving the win to Fischle. Today, the Arias Pistons Dial-Rite was able to be competed and Brian Fischle took the win. He ran 8.905 on his 8.90 dial to win the money. Honorable mentions for the day go out to semi-finalist Gerald Palacios for a .006 light in the first round, Chris Stock for having a .007 light in the second round, and Chris Stock again for having a .001 light in the third round even though his car fell off and he lost to Don Gatlin. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Series, it was Dwayne Eastridge taking the victory over Peter Berkuta. Eastridge had the better light and broke out by less in the double breakout affair to take the win. By winning, Eastridge has also qualified for the year-end Pacific High Reach Shootout. In the semi-final, Berkuta had a bye run and Dwayne Eastridge defeated Daniel McClelland. Does that last name sound familiar to you? It should, that is the grandson of the legendary Dave McClelland. McClelland had the better reaction time, but broke out taking the stripe giving Eastridge the win. The Arias Pistons Dial-Rite win went to Scott Joines who was .008 over his dial to take the money. Honorable mentions for the day go out to Cynthia Lang for having a .003 light in the first round, eventual runner-up Peter Berkuta for running 11.576 on his 11.57 dial in the first round, eventual semi-finalist Daniel McClelland for running 11.956 on his 11.95 dial, Mike McVeil for running 11.152 on his 11.15 dial in the first round, Dan Marciano for running 10.739 on his 10.73 dial in the second round, Duane Cress for having a .006 light in the second round, eventual semi-finalist Daniel McClelland again for a .007 light in the second round, and Daniel McClelland again for having a .007 light in the 4th round. McClelland was killer on his lights all day; this is by far one of the best performances that I have ever seen. In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, it was Jimmy Morosan taking the win over Brandon Seraphine. Seraphine had the better light, but broke out by more, giving Morosan the win in the double breakout competition. Also, by winning this event, Morosan has qualified to be in the Pacific High Reach Shootout for Juniors at the end of the year. In the semi-finals, it was Seraphine defeating Brett Lenarth. Seraphine had an awesome .001 light and that was all he needed to take the win. Morosan defeated Ryan Diosdado. Diosdado unfortunately went red automatically giving Morosan the win-light and the advance to the final. In the first round, there was a rather unique match-up. Brett Lenarth (17) had to race younger brother Cade (9), with age prevailing in this battle as Brett got the win. The Arias Pistons Dial-Rite win and money went to Stephanie Ball who was .012 over her dial. Honorable mentions go out to Sean Joines for having a .005 light in only his 4th drag race ever!!!, Evan Kowalski for running a perfect 9.010 on his 9.01 dial in the first round, Tori Brown for a .007 light in the first round, Chandler Meziere for running 9.056 on his 9.05 dial in the second round, Brandon Seraphine for running 7.908 on his 7.90 dial in the second round, Kyle Nagy for a .001 light in the second round, and Brandon Seraphine for his .001 light in the semi-final. The best package in the first round $50 savings bond sponsored by Scot Paul went to Evan Kowalski who had a .031 light and ran dead on his number with a 0 for a total package of .031. The number one qualifier got a $10 Jamba Juice gift card from the Halley Family today, as this award is unsponsored. This went to Avery Brown who had a perfect light in qualifying. The $25 movie card for taking out the number one qualifier went to Brett Lenarth for defeating Avery Brown in the second round. ### |

2008 SCEDA Champions "Meziere Electronics" John Brooks "Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels" Jeff Interlicchia "McGee Cams Junior Dragster" Jason Dennell K D Kanopy "Race of Champions" Ryan Priddy and Brianna Blinzler SCEDA 2008 final points posted, see stories below. Proposed 2009 Schedule posted below. On Friday, November 8th, long time SCEDA racer, John Gates, passed away at Barona 1/8th Mile Dragstrip where he was racing with his son in a match race. He collapsed on the starting line while backing his son up in the groove, when he suffered a fatal heart attack. He was surrounded that day at the track by his family, wife, son, daughter in law and grandkids, as well as many friends. John was a good friend to many and brought joy and laughter to those who knew him. It is an understatement to say that John will be missed. John's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to help his wife Kathy out with final expenses. They are in the process of setting up a Memorial Fund. In the meantime, cards and donations can be sent to: Kathy Gates 8552 Big Rock Road Santee, CA 92071 John's did not want to have a formal Memorial Service. At the family's request, a dinner has been set up for those that knew John so that they can get together and share their favorite John Gate's story: Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 PM - Vince's Spaghetti 1206 W Holt Blvd Ontario CA 91762 The restaurant has set aside their banquet room for the evening. The cost of dinner is $15 per person ($10 for kids 12 and under), which includes soup, salad, spaghetti with meat sauce and a beverage. They do not offer individual checks, so money will be collected in the room to pay for the dinner. Please RVSP by Tuesday evening, as the restaurant needs to know how many will be coming. In an attempt to help the family out at this difficult time, RSVP's should go to Staci Cannon at 760-249-4999 or scannon@sceda.com. We hope that many of you will be able to share the evening with Eric and his family to celebrate John's life and share your favorite stories about John.

Race 10 Recap Plus KD Kanopy Race of Champions Saturday, October 11, 2008 Auto Club Dragway Fontana, CA Written By: Brad Cannon The event started off the day with the KD Kanopy Race of Champions. The Meziere SCEDA Electronics Category and the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Category ran the Race of Champions in a combined format. This meant that there were 11 cars in the Shootout competing for the $1600 winner-take-all purse. The win went to Ryan Priddy (No-E) over John Brooks (E). Priddy had the better light off the line and broke out by less in the double breakout final. In the semi-finals, Priddy had the bye run to advance into the final. In the other semi-final matchup, it was two Electronics cars battling it out. It was Brooks defeating Alan Hoefer. Brooks had the slightly better light and ran a 10.200 on his 10.20 dial forcing Hoefer to break out trying to take the stripe. In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster series version of the KD Kanopy Race of Champions, it was Brianna Blinzler taking the victory over Brittany Johnson and claiming the $900 savings bond. Johnson had the better light on the line, but Blinzler ran closer to her dial to take the victory. In the semi-finals, it was Blinzler defeating Brad Cannon in a weird race. Both drivers went red, but Cannon was the slower car and left first so he lost the race. Cannon was .035 red and Blinzler was .006 red. In the other semi, it was Johnson defeating Chris Nagy. Nagy had the better light by .001 but took too big of a stripe and broke out by more in the double breakout affair. This gave the victory to Johnson and set up the final round matchup. So congratulations to Ryan Priddy and Brianna Blinzler for taking the money and victories in the KD Kanopy Race of Champions! Great job! The KD Kanopy Race of Champions race was completed during time trials so then we moved on into Race 10. In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics category, it was Charlie Boyd taking the victory over series champion John Brooks. This race was actually completed on Sunday due to unforceable delays due to several massive oil downs and a computer glitch that happened on Saturday. Also, due to Mother Nature not cooperating with us and there being considerable winds, the race was completed on the 1/8th mile. Brooks had the better light in the final, but his car was not able to run as close to the dial as Charlie Boyd’s car, which handed the victory over to Charlie Boyd. The margin of victory was .015. In the semi-finals, it was Charlie Boyd defeating Ron Miller. Miller was way late and his car ran way off the dial, handing the easy victory over to Charlie Boyd. In the other semi-final matchup, Brooks had the bye run automatically advancing into the final round. Honorable mentions go out to event winner Charlie Boyd for having a .004 light in the first round, Charlie Boyd again for having a .006 light in the second round, and event runner-up and series champion Brooks for having a .001 light in the third round. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E category, it was Jeff Interlicchia taking the victory over Ken Plouffe in the biggest field of the year. The win also shot Interlicchia up to number one in points after the day. This race too was completed on Sunday because of the events that took place on Saturday and completed on the 1/8th mile due to high winds. Interlicchia had the much better light in the final and that was all he needed to take the victory. In the semi-finals, it was Plouffe defeating Jim DeLorenzo Jr. Plouffe had the better light and ran an 8.036 on his 8.03 dial to take the victory. In the other semi-final, Interlicchia took the win over Gary Hairfield. Interlicchia had a great .001 light and Hairfield went red, handing the victory to Interlicchia. Tough luck for Joy Linehan who blew up her motor and transmission on the first pass of the day. This was her first oil down in 14 years of racing and she was more upset about oiling down the track than the damage to her motor and transmission. Tough luck also goes to Val Houmard who blew up her motor in the third round and was not able to compete any more even though she won the round. Scary moments for Val though as oil got under the rear tires when she blew the motor going through the lights and caused her car to spin out several times. Thankfully, she did a great job at driving and did not make contact with either wall or Steve Bruns, the car in the other lane. Honorable mentions go out to semi-finalist DeLorenzo for having a .006 light in the first round, KD Kanopy Race of Champions winner Ryan Priddy for having a .009 light in the first round, winner Interlicchia for having a .006 light in the second round, and Interlicchia again for his .001 light in the semi-finals. In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster category, it was KD Kanopy Race of Champions runner-up Brittany Johnson taking the victory over Sami Ball. This race was completed Sunday morning due to the issues on Saturday, but it was completed at the 330-foot cone. Since juniors usually run to the 1/8th mile, it was decided that they too would cut back there distance by half and run to only 330 feet. Johnson had a great .003 light in the final and that was all she needed to defeat Sami Ball. It was a miracle of sorts that Sami Ball even made it to the final round though. In the time run given to all the competitors that were still in before the eliminations continued due to the drastic change in weather, Sami Ball had blown up her motor going through the lights. The team unfortunately didn’t have a spare motor with them, but they did have another motor sitting back at their shop in another car. So Jeff Ball, Sami’s dad, ran home to get the other motor and got back in time to hear the round of juniors being called to the lanes. At this point he thought they were done because he didn’t have time to pull the motor out of Sami’s car yet. However, Zach and Dave Meziere had pulled the motor out while Jeff was getting the other motor without his knowing. So with the three of them all thrashing to get the other motor in, they were able to get up in line in time to make the third round of eliminations and manage to win. This is the second miracle because they had no idea what Sami’s car with that motor in those conditions would run. They took a guess and ran within .016 of what they thought it would run. Congratulations to the Ball family for making it all the way to the semis after the adversity, and thank you to the Meziere family for the tremendous sportsmanship they showed. In the semi-finals, Sami ball defeated Brett Lenarth. Lenarth went way red which automatically handed the win over to Sami Ball and allowed her a free run to get a dial before they advanced to the finals. In the other semi-final, it was Johnson defeating Brad Cannon. Cannon went red as well, automatically handing the victory over to Johnson. Honorable mentions go out to winner Johnson for running 4.921 on her 4.92 dial in the semi-finals and Johnson again in the final for her great .003 reaction time. The best package in the first round award of a $50 savings bond sponsored by Scot Paul went to event winner Brittany Johnson with a .040 package. The #1 qualifier award of a plaque and $20 In-N-Out coupon sponsored by the Nagy Family went to Chris Gartner with a .000 reaction time. The Ball family $25 gift card to the person who defeated the number one qualifier went to Laura Higgins who defeated #1 qualifier Chris Gartner in the first round. Lockhart Family Racing provided a 5 gallon drum of alcohol to the person with the best losing reaction time in the third round. This award went to DJ Houmard, who lost with a .039 reaction time. Race 11 Recap Saturday, October 12, 2008 Auto Club Dragway Fontana, CA Written By: Brad Cannon Today, all the races were competed on the 1/8th mile for Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics category and the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA no-E Category and for the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster category, the races were competed to the 330-foot mark. In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics category, it was Rob Strong taking the victory over Saturday’s winner Charlie Boyd. This win did two things for Strong, the first was that it moved him up into second place in the points, and the second thing that it did was a little bit of history. Strong became the first SCEDA racer to win events in both the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics category and the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E category in the same year. His win in Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCECA No-E earlier this year had already made him the first person to win in both categories. Congrats on your second place finish and on making some history Rob!!! Strong had the better light and ran a 6.635 on his 6.63 dial to defeat Charlie Boyd in the final. In the semi-finals, Strong had the bye run and Charlie Boyd defeated SCEDA newcomer Jack Freckman. Freckman went red automatically giving the victory to Charlie Boyd. Congratulations go to John Brooks on being the 2008 Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics Champion. Rob Strong finished second this year after being the 2007 SCEDA Meziere Enterprises Champion, with Jim Mahar coming in third, Alan Hoefer fourth, and Don Gatlin rounding out the top 5. The rookie of the year in the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics category went to Sarah Lockhart. Congratulations on your accomplishment Sarah!!! Honorable mentions for the day go out to runner up Charlie Boyd for having a perfect light in the second round and Rob Strong for his 6.635 on his 6.63 dial to win the final round. Also, congratulations to John Brooks for being the only car in Meziere Enterprises to have perfect attendance and attend every race. Rob Strong had SCEDA Perfect attendance as well, but not for the class as he choose to run in both classes throughout the year. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E category, it was Scott Joines taking the victory over Saturday’s winner and class champion Jeff Interlicchia. Congratulations to Jeff Interlicchia on taking the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E category. His runner-up finish on Sunday gave him the championship. In the final, Scott Joines had the better light and ran a 6.919 on his 6.91 dial to defeat Interlicchia who ran 7.290 on his 7.29 dial but gave up too much on the reaction time. The margin of victory was .003. Also by winning, Scott Joines propelled himself up into second place in points. Congratulations Scott on your second-place finish. In the semi-finals, Interlicchia had the bye run and Scott Joines defeated Gary Moreno. Scott had the better light and forced Moreno to break out in an effort to take the stripe. This was also quite a feat for Moreno to make it to the semis as he was running another bike in another series and was going rounds on both of them. He was jumping back in forth from bike to bike and managed to go rounds in both categories. Also, in the other category Moreno was competing in, there was a pro tree and this category was a full tree, so good job Gary on having an awesome day! Honorable mentions go out to Amy Thompson in the McGee Cams Jr. Comp car for having a .003 light in the first round, Randy Miller for running 6.401 on his 6.40 dial in the first round, semi-finalist Gary Moreno for running 6.200 on his 6.20 dial in the second round, winner Scott Joines for having a perfect light in the second round, runner-up Interlicchia for having a .001 light in the second round, Interlicchia again for having a .005 light in the third round, semi-finalist Moreno again for running 6.208 on his 6.20 dial in the third round, Brad Cannon for running 7.747 on his 7.74 dial in the third round, Interlicchia yet again for running 7.297 on his 7.29 dial in the semi-final, Scott Joines for his earlier mentioned dead on with a 9 run in the final, and Interlicchia one last time for his earlier mentioned dead on 0 run in the final even though he lost. Congratulations to Jeff Interlicchia one more time for being the 2008 Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E category Champion!! The rest of the top five were Scott Joines in second, Eric Christianson in third, John Joines in fourth, and early season points leader Mike Agnew in fifth. Also, congratulations to Brad Cannon on being the 2008 Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Rookie of the Year! Perfect attendance for the season went out to Champion Jeff Interlicchia, John Joines, Mike Agnew, and Brad Cannon. In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster category, it was Clay Criner taking the victory over Avery Brown. Brown had a slightly better light but his car fell off and didn’t run the number, giving Criner the victory. In the semi-finals, Criner had the bye to automatically advance into the final and Avery Brown defeated series champion Jason Dennell. First of all, Congratulations Jason on being the 2008 McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster series champion!!! You definitely earned it. It’s pretty impressive that he only had one first round loss all year and was the runner-up three times. Dennell had the better light in the semi-final, but took too much stripe and broke out allowing Avery Brown to advance into the final. Honorable mentions go out to Chandler Meziere for having a perfect light in the first round, Saturday’s winner Brittany Johnson for having a .008 light in the third round even though she lost to Jason Dennell, Dennell for running 5.120 on his 5.12 dial in the third round to defeat Johnson, and winner Clay Criner for running 4.929 on his 4.92 dial in the third round. The best package in the first round award of a $50 savings bond sponsored by Scot Paul went to Chandler Meziere with a .040 package. The #1 qualifier award of a plaque and $20 In-N-Out coupon sponsored by the Nagy Family went to Chandler Meziere with a .000 reaction time. The number one qualifier award went out to the best reaction time in the first round because no official qualifying session was run due to trying to complete Saturday’s event. The Ball family $25 gift card to the person who defeated the number one qualifier went to eventual runner-up Avery Brown who defeated #1 qualifier Chandler Meziere in the third round. Congratulations again to Jason Dennell for being the 2008 McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series Champion!! Way to go Jason!!!! The rest of the top 5 put Brad Cannon in second, Chris Nagy in third, Sami Ball in fourth, and Ryan Diosdado in fifth. Perfect attendance for the year went to Champion Jason Dennell, Brad Cannon, Sami Ball, Justin Ball, Avery Brown, Kelly Davis, Meggie Bohn, Tiereny Diaz, Luke Diaz, and Kaylee Fry.

The dial rite for the day had two cars run right on their dial. Ryan Priddy ran a 10.160 on his 10.16 dial and Eric Christianson ran a 11.540 on his 11.54 dial. The winner of the dial rite went to Priddy on reaction time. Priddy had a .001 light to Christianson’s .037 light. November 11th, 2007 Race 10 Recap by Brad Cannon In the Meziere SCEDA Electronics category, Jay Shelton took the win and the $1000 over John Brooks. Both cars went red, but Brooks was the slower car, so he was red first and lost. In the semi-finals, Brooks had the bye run and Shelton defeated Garrett Wiles. Shelton had the better light and was able to force Wiles to break out by more in an effort to take the stripe and the win. Kristie Thompson decided that she wanted to run her Junior Comp car in the electronics class, making the first outing of junior comp car in SCEDA Electronics. Unfortunately, she lost in the first round to Tom Drake, Sr. when she had to abort the run. Rhobert Strong wound up winning the season championship, with John Brooks second and Garrett Wiles third. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, Series Champion Chuck Killian, Jr. took the win over fellow friend John Brooks. Yup, that’s the same Brooks that was the runner-up in the Electronics class also. The funny part about this was that Killian was driving a car that he had borrowed from Brooks. He had a little better light than Brooks in the final to take the win in the double breakout. Brooks tried to take the stripe and did, but his slower reaction time meant that he broke out by more. In the semi-finals, Brooks had the ladder bye run (Does anyone see a trend here?), and Killian defeated Bill Perri. Killian got the win when Perri was unable to get the car started. Killian came into today knowing that he was in control of his destiny, and he took no chances. Only having to win a couple of rounds, he decided that he wanted to win the whole race instead. That’s what I call winning it in style! When John Joines lost in the first round, it locked up the championship up for Killian. Honorable mention goes to Rick Reynolds for having a .001 light in the first round and Killian for having a .004 light and running an 8.548 on an 8.58 dial for an .012 package in the second round, and Brooks for running 6.609 on an 6.60. Tough luck to Reynolds for going red by .002 in the second round, Gary Hairfield for going red by .007 in the second round, and Perri for not being able to get his car started in the semi-finals. In the McGee Cams SCEDA Junior Dragster Series, Ryan Diosdado took the win over Kaitlyn McGee (who went to the finals on both days!). Diosdado cut a little better light and was able to get McGee to break out in an effort to get the stripe in order to get the win. In the semis, Diosdado defeated Sarah Moldenhauer and McGee defeated Katelyn Whynaught. Diosdado was able to cut a better light and run closer to his dial in order to take the victory. In the other semi, McGee had a slightly worse light, but Whynaught’s car fell off, giving McGee the opportunity to take the victory. Meanwhile, season point’s leader Shane Sweeney opened the door up when he lost in the first round both days. Christian Paul had a shot at catching him, but lost to Chris Nagy in the second round when he had a worse light. Zach Meziere saw his chance of catching Sweeney fade away when he lost in the second round to race winner Diosdado. Meziere had the better light, but Diosdado ran closer to his dial. Nagy was the last car that had a shot at the championship, but lost in the third round to Sarah Moldenhauer in a double breakout affair. Paul gets an honorable mention for having a .006 light in the first round and running 8.261 on an 8.26 dial for a .007 package (All this on a bye run). Moldenhauer ran a 7.984 on a 7.98, Meziere for running 8.093 on an 8.09. Congratulations to Shane Sweeney on becoming the McGee Cams SCEDA Junior Dragster Series Champion. He had a tough weekend by losing first round both days and having to watch his lead slowly get eaten away. Luckily for him, he had a big enough lead and was able to gain his first SCEDA championship. A consolation race was also held for the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series today. This was for no points, no trophies, just fun. All of the first round losers had the opportunity to enter if they wanted to. Avery Brown wound up taking the victory over series champion Shane Sweeney. Brown had a better light, and was able to defeat Sweeney in a hole shot win. In the semi-finals, Sweeney defeated Lizzy Halley and Brown defeated Chandler Meziere. Halley had the better light by a bunch, but was not able to win as her car fell off for some reason, giving Sweeney the win. In the other semi, Meziere had the better light, but gave the win to Brown when he went under his dial. Sunday’s race was the final SCEDA race for several of our competitors that have run with SCEDA since the junior dragster category was created. Christian Paul, Katie Hepler and Kristie Thompson all age out this year. They are great competitors and we hope to see them next year in our Electronic and No E classes! |
November 10, 2007 Race 9 Recap by Brad Cannon In the Meziere SCEDA Electronics class, Gary Hairfield took the win over John Brooks for the $1,000 to win. Hairfield had a .004 light and ran an 8.428 on an 8.42 dial for a .012 package to take the win. Brooks was not left a chance to be able to take the stripe or the win. He was number two in points and this helped his case for keeping it. Rhobert Strong, who had already locked up the title, was a no show for the weekend. In the semi-finals, Brooks had the bye and Hairfield defeated Jay Shelton. Shelton had a better light, but broke out on the other end to lose. In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, Chuck Killian defeated Gary Hairfield in the final round to take the points lead. Killian had the better light and an 8.508 on an 8.50 dial to take the win. In the semi-finals, Killian defeated John Mason and Hairfield defeated Jeff Interlicchia. Killian had the better light and was able to run closer to his dial because Mason’s car fell off big-time. Hairfield had a better light than did Interlichia and managed to make Interlichia break out in an effort to get the stripe. The stage was set for Sunday, with Killian moving into first place by two rounds over John Joines, who lost in the first round. Honorable mention goes out to Jim Wood for having a .008 light and running a 6.528 on a 6.52 dial for a .016 package in the first round. In the McGee Cams SCEDA Jr. Dragster Series, Zach Meziere took the win over Kaitlyn McGee. Meziere had the better light and was able to force McGee to break out in an effort to get the stripe. This also moved Meziere up into third place in the season long points standing, 4 rounds out with one more race to go. In the semi-finals, McGee defeated #2 in points Christian Paul and Meziere defeated Alexis Jeter. Paul would go into Sunday’s race 3 rounds back of point’s leader Shane Sweeney who lost in the first round. McGee had the better light against Paul and was able to take the win, even though Paul ran a little bit closer to his dial. In the other semi, Meziere defeated Jeter when she went red. This gave him the opportunity to run the car out, and he ran an 8.090 on an 8.09 dial. The stage was set for Sunday, with 4 drivers still having a shot at being able to take the title. Sweeney was 1st, Paul 2nd (three rounds back), Meziere 3rd (four rounds back), and Chris Nagy 4th (needing to win in order to force a runoff between himself and Sweeney). Honorable mention to Alexis Jeter for having a .007 light in the second round, and Jason Dennell for having a .002 light in the third round, Ian Perri for running a 7.996 on a 7.99 dial in the first round, and Kaitlyn McGee for running 7.968 on an 7.96 dial in the third round. Also on this day, a consolation race was held for the first round losers of the Meziere Electronics and the Mickey Thompson No-E categories. This was a combined race between the two categories. Vic Hobbs, with his 12.20 truck in the 1/8th, took the win in the final over Matt Gross. He won when Gross went red. John McCormick was the semi-finalist, but broke out in an effort to take the stripe for the loss. |

It is also worth mentioning that this is Boyd’s first victory in a dragster! In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E, Courtney Glover defeated Gabriel Torres in the final. In the semi-finals, Glover defeated Danny Gonzalez, who was riding a motorcycle; Torres managed to defeat Piper Slone who was driving a Chrysler 300. How cool would it have been to have a motorcycle and a Chrysler 300 in the final? That would definitely be something that you don’t see every day. Glover defeated Gonzalez when he went red. If Gonzalez had gone red, he probably still would have lost because Glover ran right on his dial with a 6. Torres managed to take out Slone and the Chrysler in the other semi by cutting a better light. This was all that he needed to take the win. In the "Meziere Enterprises Pro Electronics" it was "Bullet Bob" Wilson with a .004 over winning the money, while Josh Davis with a .000!! won the money in the "Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-E". According to the track manager, the race will be continued tomorrow morning starting at 8AM. The day will start with the "McGee Cams Junior Dragsters" at 8:00 AM. The plan is to finish out Saturday's race and then move in to Sunday's race.

Come race the SCEDA Series in 2007!
Since 1971, SCEDA has been promoting events in Southern California. For 2007, we have made some changes to the SCEDA program in hopes of increasing our car counts. After taking a survey, most participants responded that they wanted to see some changes, so we are implementing them for this season. We hope that the changes will make for a more successful program, where we can increase car counts and therefore increase the payouts. SCEDA pays out 80% for Electronics and NoE! NEW for 2007 Electronics (6.50 to 13.99) and No-E (7.50 to 21.99): We lowered the ET in Electronics to 6.50 to accommodate the faster cars that want to participate. Cross talk will be available for electronics. First round pairings based on reaction time in the last time trial. If you do not make the last time trial, you will be put on at the end of the ladder. No buy backs: We will attempt to have a consolation race with Electronics and No-E combined, time and track permitting, for those that go out first round. Cost will be $15 - winner takes all. SCEDA fee must be paid before you make any runs: The SCEDA fee remains at $100 per day for Electronics and $50 per day for No-E. There are no other association fees or membership fees. SCEDA is open to all racers who fall into Electronics and No-E! Track fees apply for a tech card and spectator entry. Please come to the SCEDA pit area to take care of your entry fee early - look for the SCEDA banner. If you have not paid prior to the run, you will not be permitted to make a time trail and you will forfeit that time trial session – no exceptions! Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. 8 out of 10 races will count towards the championship. If a race cancels for any reason, it will be considered a throw out and no points will not be awarded at a cancelled race. We look forward to a great season with SCEDA Electronics and No-E! If you have any questions, please call Staci Cannon at 1-888-488-RACE (7223) or visit us on the web at www.sceda.com. Thanks again for your support and see you at the Auto Club Dragway February 3rd and 4th! |
