June 1, 2011

For Immediate Release:

As many of you know, we have not published a SCEDA schedule for this year and we have not emailed or published any information for 2011.  In December of 2010, the track only gave SCEDA two weekends, July 16-17 and August 13-14.  The final answer from the track at the beginning of December was that we were only going to be allowed two weekends.  The schedule was then changed on the Auto Club Dragway website to add additional dates for SCEDA of June 11-12 and July 16-17.  However, SCEDA was never notified by the track regarding the schedule change and was not able to confirm that the dates were in fact accurate.  We did not want to publish dates that had not been verified with the track, as the schedule we had received in December showed the June dates as junior races and we were specifically told we would only get two weekends.  On June 1st, we noticed that the Auto Club Dragway website had been updated again to remove all of the Summit and Association races, including SCEDA, for the remainder of the 2011 season.

As of now, SCEDA has no races for the 2011 season.  Hopefully the track will be able to resolve the issues and be able to allow the various associations and SCEDA to run once the issues are resolved.  We hope to be back to racing at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana as soon as possible.  We will advise when we are updated by the track.

We have appreciated all of the support from the racers and sponsors over the years.  We hope to be able to resume racing later in 2011 or in 2012.  If you have any questions, please contact us at 888-488-RACE (7223) or email to race@sceda.com.

Sincerely,

Brent and Staci Cannon

Presented by: ARP - Automotive Racing Products

Auto Club Dragway

Fontana, CA August 14, 2010

By: Brad Cannon

In the ARP Race of Champions for Junior Dragsters, it was Chandler Meziere taking the $750 savings bond victory over Ryan Diosdado.  Both drivers had amazing reaction times with Diosdado having a .002 and Chandler Meziere having a .009 as well as running 8.941 on his 8.94 dial for a .010 package to take the honors of being the 2010 ARP Race of Champions for Junior Dragsters Champion.  In the semis, Chandler Meziere had the bye run and Diosdado defeated Chandler’s older brother Zach Meziere.  Zach went red by .008 to end the hopes of an all Meziere final round.  The first round saw Chandler defeat Madison Whitten.  Chandler had the reaction time off the line and that propelled him to the next round.  Diosdado defeated Ryan Greenwell.  Both drivers had identical reaction times and ran over their dial by .013 making for margin of victory to be .0009.  The last matchup saw Zach defeat Austin Greenwell.  Zach had the reaction time advantage and that allowed him all he needed to take the victory.  All the drivers were definitely trying to win this race and the level of competition was stellar.  All the competitors did a great job and congratulations to Chandler Meziere on being the ARP Race of Champions winner.

In the ARP Race of Champions, it was Corey LeClair taking the victory over Steve Bruns.  With the win, LeClair took home the $1600 prize.  The reaction time advantage went to Bruns who had a great .006 light, but he was not able to run the number.  This allowed LeClair to take the victory by .0019.  The semi finals saw LeClair defeating Don Gatlin.  Gatlin had a stellar .005 light but LeClair put together a .012 package by running a perfect 7.950 on his 7.95 dial with a .012 light.  The other matchup saw Bruns defeat a red lighting Chad Langdon.  As Langdon was the last No-E car standing, this ensured that an Electronics car would take the victory for the first time in ARP Race of Champions history.  Second round saw LeClair defeating a red lighting 2009 ARP Race of Champions winner John Joines.  Bruns defeated Daniel McClelland.  Both drivers had identical lights and McClelland broke out by .002.  Gatlin Defeated Jeff Interlicchia with a .017 light and a 10.841 on a 10.84 dial leaving no room for Interlicchia to win as he had a .018 light.  Langdon defeated Dick Krieger by having a great .003 reaction time.  The first round saw Interlicchia defeating Tony Mandella, Gatlin defeating Agnew who went red by .046.  McClelland defeated Chris Vels in a double breakout affair.  Krieger Defeated Doug Broaddus with a great .004 light.  LeClair defeated Zach Meziere in a great race with both cars being close off the line LeClair running closer to his dial.  Bruns defeated Sam Robinson IV with a 9.909 on his 9.90 dial.  Joines defeated Ryan Mangus by having the better reaction time.  The final first round matchup saw Langdon defeat Gabe Torres who went red by .002.  All the racers were in fierce competition and congrats to LeClair on being the 2010 ARP Race of Champions winner.

In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics Class, it was Gabriel Torres taking the victory over Zach Meziere.  In the final, Meziere went red by .001 handing the win over to Torres.  Torres had a great .004 light and then clicked it off and coasted through to take the victory.   With his win, Torres received a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, $1000, and qualified for the 2011 Race of Champions.  In the semis, Meziere had the bye run.  On this run he ran 8.024 on his 8.02 dial to advance easily.  In the other matchup, Torres defeated “Dead on” Don Gatlin.  The reaction time advantage went to Torres, who had a .010 package with a .010 light and running a perfect 7.770 on his 7.77 dial.  I guess the 7.77 dial was his lucky number.  By going one round further than Gatlin, Meziere moved into a tie for the lead of the overall season standings with only one race left.  The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by runner up Zach Meziere.  He ran 8.093 on his 8.09 dial to claim the honors.  Honorable mentions for the day go out to Dan Simmons, who ran a perfect 10.900 on his 10.90 dial in the first round to defeat Bill Jackson, Steve Bruns who ran 9.903 on his 9.90 dial in the first round albeit on a losing effort to Joe Glenwinkel, semi finalist Don Gatlin for running 7.686 on his 7.68 dial in the first round to defeat Corey LeClair who ran 7.978 on his 7.97 dial, winner Gabe Torres for running 7.829 on his 7.82 dial in the first round to defeat Dave Gotts who ran 10.904 on his 10.90 dial, Simmons for a .009 light in the second round to defeat Joe Glenwinkel, runner up Zach Meziere for running a perfect 8.090 on his 8.09 dial in the second round to defeat Brian Calvin, Meziere for a .006 light in the third round to defeat Simmons, Torres for his earlier mentioned .010 package in the semi finals, and Torres one more time for his earlier mentioned .004 light in the final round.  Sunday’s race will tell if it will be Gatlin taking his second consecutive SCEDA championship or if it will be the rookie, 16 yr old Zach Meziere.

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E Class, it was Ryan Priddy taking the victory over Chad Langdon.  The reaction time advantage went to Priddy by .002 and that gave him the advantage needed to take the win.  This was an especially emotional victory for Priddy as it was his first SCEDA race since the passing of his father,  Wayne Priddy.  In the semis Priddy had the bye run to easily advance to the finals.  The other matchup saw Langdon defeat Val Houmard.  Langdon had a great .009 light and that gave him all the advantage to take the victory over Houmard.  The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Dick Krieger who ran 8.609 on his 8.60 dial to take the money.  The points battle saw Mike Agnew sitting only 12 points behind Dick Krieger.  The championship would be decided on Sunday.  Honorable mention for the day go out to John Gibson for a great .002 light in the first round albeit on a losing effort to Kyle Rizzoli, John Brooks for running 10.436 on his 10.43 dial to defeat Dan Wilder in the first round, Jeff Interlicchia for running 11.382 on his 11.38 dial in the first round to defeat Ken Long, Mark Fricker for his .009 light in the first round although on a losing effort to Sam Robinson IV, Jeff Clem for running 10.203 on his 10.20 dial in the first round although on a losing effort to Val Houmard, Brooks for a .003 light in the second round to defeat Eric Haensly, Chad Langdon for a perfect light in the second round to defeat Sam Robinson IV, Val Houmard for a .009 light in the second round to defeat George Chatterton III, Wade Maggio for a .009 light in the third round to defeat John Brooks, and Langdon again for his .009 light in the semis to defeat Houmard.  Sunday would tell who would take the points championship.

In the Calvert Racing SCEDA Stock/Super Stock combo, it was Chad Langdon taking the victory over Bryan Broaddus.  With the victory, Langdon took the $500, a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, and qualified for the 2011 Race of Champions.  Bryan Broaddus went red in the final, handing Langdon the victory to go along with his runner up in No-E.  In the other semi, Bryan Broaddus defeated Daniel McClelland.  McClelland had the reaction time advantage, but broke out by more in the double breakout affair.  In the other matchup, Chad Langdon had a competition bye run, which he did not take since the other drivers were not getting a qualifying run before the continued race.  Honorable mentions for the day go out to Chad Langdon for a .009 package in the first round with a .001 light and 11.688 on his 11.68 dial to defeat Ryan Schloe, and Ryan McClanahan for running 10.145 on his 10.14 dial to defeat Ken Etter.  The second round matchup between Daniel McClelland and Brett Brown decided the championship.  This matchup pitted the top two in points against each other and McClelland took the victory and the championship in the double breakout.  Congratulations to Daniel McClelland on being the 2010 SCEDA Calvert Racing Stock/Super Stock Combo Champion.

In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Junior Dragster class, it was Sami Ball taking the win over Tierney Diaz.  Both drivers were stellar off the line with Diaz having a .006 light and Ball a .002 light.  Ball ran closer to her dial as Diaz had issues on the top end to take the victory.  The victory gave Ball a SCEDA Big Guy trophy and an entry into the 2011 Race of Champions.  In the semis, Ball defeated Ryan Greenwell.  Ball had an amazing .003 light to take the victory over Greenwell.  The other matchup saw Tierney Diaz take the win over Brandyn Willoughby.  Willoughby had a great .006 light, but ran well short of his dial allowing Diaz to advance to the final.  The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Katelyn Savolt who ran 8.914 on her 8.90 dial to take the honors.  The Ball Family sponsored number 1 qualifier award went to winner Sami Ball, who had a .002 light to take the top spot.  Honorable mentions for the day go out to Tierney Diaz for running 7.952 on her 7.95 dial to defeat Savanna Hall, Brandon Savolt for a .016 package in the first round to defeat Dylan Cowling (.007 light and 8.939 on an 8.93 dial), Sami Ball for running 8.042 on her 8.04 dial in the first round to defeat Ryan Houmard, Diaz running 7.951 on her 7.95 dial in the second round to defeat Madison Whitten, Chandler Meziere for having a .008 light in the second round to defeat Ryan Diosdado, Brandyn Willoughby for running 7.903 on his 7.90 dial in the second round to defeat DJ Houmard, Ryan Greenwell for a .005 light in the third round to defeat Brianna Blinzler, Sami Ball for her .003 light in the semi and her .002 light in the final, and Diaz for her .006 light in the final.  The points after this race had Diosdado having a comfortable lead, but Zach Meziere still had the ability to catch him.  Sunday would tell all.

In the Meziere Enterprises SCEDA Electronics class, it was Don Gatlin taking the win over Alan Hoefer.  The reaction time advantage went to Hoefer, but Gatlin ran closer to his dial, allowing him to take the victory by .009.  With his win, Gatlin receive $1000, a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, qualified for the 2011 Race of Champions, and won his second consecutive SCEDA championship.  This was decided in the first round when the two contenders were forced to face each other.  This matchup saw Gatlin versus Meziere for all the marbles.  The reaction time advantage went to Gatlin in this key matchup and that propelled him to the victory and the championship.  Congrats to “Dead On” Don Gatlin on his second consecutive SCEDA Championship.  In the semis, Gatlin defeated Rob Strong.  Gatlin had the reaction time advantage and ran a dead on 7.686 on his 7.68 dial to take the win.  The other semi saw Hoefer defeat Steve Bruns.  Bruns had an exceptionally late light handing Hoefer the easy win.  The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Rob Strong.  He went 10.803 on his 10.79 dial to take the win.  Honorable mentions for the day go out to Gatlin for his .006 light in the first round to defeat Zach Meziere, Strong for a .013 package in the second round to defeat Robert Broguiere, and Gatlin again for his earlier mentioned 7.686 on his 7.68 dial to defeat Strong in the semis.  Congratulations once again to Don Gatlin on his second consecutive SCEDA Meziere Enterprises Electronics championship.  Zach Meziere took second place, with Rob Strong, Corey LeClair, and Dan Simmons rounding out the top 5.

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels SCEDA No-E class, it was Mike Agnew taking the victory over Brad Cannon.  Agnew had a .005 advantage off the starting line and ran closer to his number to take the win by .009.  With the win, Agnew received a SCEDA Big Guy trophy, the $500, an entry into the 2011 Race of Champions, and took the 2010 SCEDA Championship.  In the semis, Cannon had the bye run.  Agnew defeated Jeff Interlicchia.  Agnew had the reaction time advantage and forced Interlicchia to break out trying to take the stripe.  By taking the win in that matchup, Agnew took the top spot in the season standings and the 2010 SCEDA Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-E championship.  Agnew came into his zone at the right time of the season, as his round record since the July 3rd race was an amazing 28-2.  It took him winning 3 of the last 4 races, but Agnew was able to get atop the points standings and take the victory.  Congrats Mike Agnew on your first Championship Ever!!!  Also, with his runner up finish, Brad Cannon moved into third place by 1 point over Sam Robinson IV.  The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Saturday’s winner Ryan Priddy who ran 10.131 on his 10.13 dial to take the honors.  Honorable mentions for the day go out to Brad Cannon for running 12.528 on his 12.52 dial in the first round to defeat Val Houmard, Jordan Jahnke for running 10.081 on his 10.08 dial in the first round although on a losing effort to Sue Cerny, Jeff Interlicchia for having a .007 light in the first round to defeat David Cerny, Dennis Blehm for having a .001 light in the first round to defeat a red lighting Wade Maggio, John Guinn for running 10.534 on his 10.53 dial in the second round to defeat John Brooks, Jack Swanson for running 12.087 on his 12.08 dial in the second round although on a losing effort to Brad Cannon, and Sam Robinson IV for running 13.395 on his 13.39 dial in the third round although on a losing effort to Jeff Interlicchia.  The points standings for the year were Mike Agnew taking the Championship,  2009 Champion Dick Krieger in second, Brad Cannon in third, one point ahead of fourth place Sam Robinson IV, and Val Houmard in 5th.  Dan Marciano, Sam Robinson III, Jeff Interlicchia, John Brooks, and Courtney Glover rounding out the top 10.

In the Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories SCEDA Junior Dragster class, it was Madison Whitten taking her second win of the year over Zach Meziere.  Whitten had the reaction time advantage and that propelled her to the victory.  The win qualified Whitten for the 2011 Race of Champions and received a SCEDA Big Guy trophy.  In the semi finals, Whitten defeated Matthew Verlingo in his final SCEDA race ever.  The reaction time advantage went to Whitten and that was all that she needed to win.  The other matchup saw the brothers Meziere face off with Zach taking the win over a red lighting Chandler.  The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by winner Madison Whitten who ran 7.934 on her 7.93 dial to take the honors.  The Ball Family number one qualifier award went to Tierney Diaz who had a .006 light to take the top spot.  The points championship went to Ryan Diosdado, who won by one round over Zach Meziere.  Had Meziere won the final round, then he and Diosdado would have been tied, with tie breakers to determine the championship.  Honorable mentions for the day go out to Chandler Meziere for a .001 light in the third round to defeat Brianna Blinzler who ran 7.925 on her 7.92 dial and Madison Whitten for running 7.909 on her 7.90 dial in the third round to defeat Cory Freedle.  The points standings for 2010 had Ryan Diosdado being the 2010 SCEDA Terminator Blocks, Clutches, and Accessories Junior Dragster Series Champion.  Zach Meziere was in second, one round back.  Chandler Meziere was in third, Madison Whitten was in fourth, and Ryan Houmard in fifth.  Whitten’s 4th place finish was especially impressive considering she was not at the first two races of the season.  DJ Houmard, Cory Freedle, Ryan Greenwell, Ralphie Ramirez III, and Sami Ball rounded out the top 10.
